As my father gazed into the flames of the fire, in the swirling smoke, he saw the form of Itztli, the FirstFather, engulfed in flames. The flames below coalesced together and the shape of Xiuhtecuhtli appeared, the FirstMother.
"My Father saw from their demeanor that the two were not in contention as he had believed they would be. They were in harmony. An agreement had been reached. He watched the two cast about the cavern in their mesmerizing dance, and to his mind came words. They spoke of a pact, that these two eggs, far from home, lost and displaced, were chosen of the gods.
"The FirstFather turned to the small frame of my brother, and spoke. "This, my son of adopted mettle, will be my feathered one among scales. He shall adorn the arrow of my kin and steer them straight as they strike in the manner of defense, guided in the way of your fathers, Denmaster. His name will be Iuitl, the feather." My father's scales rippled and the FirstMother turned to me. "This, my daughter of blood and hearth, she will be my prophet. She will hear my words whispered across the world, and heed their meaning. In the tradition of my first daughter, she will bear her name. She will be Ehecatl, the serpent of the sky. Care for her, Denmaster, or we will need speak again." With a crack, the air snapped and grew still. The fire waned as my father gathered us in his arms and looked on into the night.”
