Sprawling in the rain shadow of the Great Furnace, Blacksand is a town in the similarly named Blacksand Desert region of the Ashfall Waste. The region is unique in its glittering obsidian sands, made fertile by the Great Furnace. The Furnace's constant smoke billow clouds the sun for most of the year, creating a cooler climate despite the natural black colour of the sands.

Much of Blacksand is a trading hub, where travellers passing through the Wastes from Wind to Lightning, Water and reverse stop to exchange goods hard to find in other regions. The region's unique beauty has attracted many permanent residents of all elements and many disciplines to Blacksand, including jewellers, blacksmiths and tailors. These permanent residents allow the town to thrive when trading slows.
The town is overseen by a council of residents, which creates much drama year round.

✣the serpentine fig✣
Hidden within the western cliffs of the Blacksand Annex, a sprawling cavern of hardened basalt and black obsidian resides. Treacherous ocean currents and seeping lava flows fill the crevasses leading to a natural atrium.
In the centre of the atrium is a jutting monolith of serpentine, from which an ancient fig tree coils. Known as the Serpentine Fig, the tree has withstood magmatic heat and a changing world for unknown centuries. It is said to have immense healing properties, amongst other many myths surrounding its existence.
There are rumours that the great tree is protected by a dedicated guard of jadeite dragons, thought to have arisen by many means, none of which are known to be true. It is commonly accepted that these dragons sought healing from the tree, only to give the ultimate sacrifice on the journey through the caverns. Resurrected by the compassion of the tree, these dragons have dedicated their new life to its protection.

Heeeyyy, glad to hear from you! I'm doing alright. :D Can toss a bunch of research notes your way if you're playing again. Kinda wild, I came back this winter, and now it seems like everyone is getting back into FR. Happy to see all these old faces around.
