Blitzheart's Clan

Cold descends upon you like a scratchy, smothering blanket.
A shiver works it's way up your spine.
Dark shapes flit beneath the shadows cast by barren, forlorn trees.
Are they real?
Are you imagining things in the swelling darkness, or are you being pursued?
Walking a little faster, the shapes speed up too, darting between trees as the shadows begin to hum, pounding against the inside of your skull.
You're running now.
Your hands shoot up to cover your ears and you squeeze your eyes shut as it gets impossibly louder.
In the moment of distraction from the mossy, grime-covered earth you'd been running on, you trip;
You fall.
You land on the ground, but it wasn't ground at all-
the termite-rotten wood gives way beneath you and you tumble into a dark cavern.
Blue and purple mushrooms glow harshly against the throbbing ink that clusters at the edges of your vision.
Luminescent dragon eggs lay in hollowed out stumps.
Somehow trees must've grown here once.
A pair of purple eyes suddenly open from the dark, gaping mouth of a tunnel.
You see the forboding spark,
the beginnings of a fire,
and you hear the deafening roar.
