Dash's eyes grew like saucers at the notion of life or death situations. Thankfully, his instructor decided against that tactic. As Lindarin considered his thoughts, Dash watched Flash and his frog, trying not to giggle at the scene.

His attention would come back to Lindarin after he posed his question. "I feel experience is better for retaining."

Lindarin nodded. "Then you'll get a 1 on 1 course on how to use basic manipulation magic, Once you have rested, of course. The Shade related things will come later once you are more experienced, for the safety of everyone in your clan and ours, and especially those shade-touched. Or if you prefer, we can begin now."

Flash decided to go after a different butterfly, not learning his lesson the first time.

Dash shook his head at Flash's play before turning his fully attention onto his teacher. "I actually feel a bit invigorated right now. I think we can begin now."

Lindarin nodded. "Then I shall teach you the basic foundations. I know you can speed up and freeze time, so I assume you can slow it too? What I would like you to do, is plant this seed, and speed up the time only it lives in until it grows into a tree."
He tossed him a small seed with a smile.

Dash clapped his paws together, ready for the next challenge. True he had some handle on time, but he's never really tried to affect just one object's temporal flow. Knowing that fact did dampen a hint of his eagerness to learn. Naturally, it didn't stop it.

He took the seedling and moved himself closer to the trees, hoping to find the best soil for the little thing to take root. Once satisfied with his location he dug a little hole-- shallow less he lose the location of the seed-- and planted it.

Dash took a few calming breaths, clutching his charm between his claws he uttered the other word of power. "Thuum," he whispered, focusing all of his energy on the little seed. The only thing that happened was what the charm was capable of doing. Dash slipped into fast forward, every inch of his body moving at such a hyper speed that it was a blur to the onlooker.

Unfortunately, with him sitting idle at the time his body's only recourse to vent the speed was to tremble. Three seconds later he was resting on his side against the red sand, moaning from the painful exertion.

One to give up he wasn't, so he pushed himself forward again. The result was the same, though it left more of a sting after it was done. No, the charm wasn't going to work. I could only do what it was programed to do. If he were to do as requested he had to do it without the aid.

For some time Dash sat over that little seed, focusing all of his energy towards it. Nothing. In frustration he plopped to his backside where he sat staring at the seedling. What was he doing wrong? His head was no hurting him so he lifted a hand to his eyes to rub at his temples. On his mind his failures and to mock him the thought of what should have happened with the tree. "Will you grow please?" he asked. As if that was going to work.

With a sigh he removed his hand with the intention of trying again, only to find himself facing an adolescent tree in the stead of the seed. "Wha-- He had done it, but how? Again he tried and his efforts failed him. It was only when he stopped trying to force the ability was he able to do it.

Dash retraced his steps and realized he was able to do this magic when he was relaxed, so he eased his body and mind again and focused on the tree aging some more. Sure enough, his attempt with temporal manipulation worked, the tree grew from a sapling to a fledgling and then finally to an adult that rivaled the others along the edge of the forest.

He was so excited about his accomplishment that he did another little victory dance while singing Stone's little celebration diddy he used to sing when he was a cub.

Flash wandered over and offered him a chocolate in the shape of a frog with a smile.
"That was quite an interesting thing to see you do."
"And thats why I am very proud, and a little surprised in you Dash" Lindarin added once Flash had commented, his paws together as he walked to sit beside Dash.
"It took James several weeks to figure it out, and he chucked such a tantrum at his failures that he quite possibly startled the tree into growing."
James could be heard groaning from embarrassment like a child from somewhere else, most likely from wherever Sholka was.
"Now for something harder, I want you to reverse time, so this mighty tree is once again a seed ready to be planted. You know now that charm of yours will only change your own relative speed, not the speed of others, and you must be relaxed. You do not have to attempt this now, but whenever you are ready, as you look exhausted after your achievements today."

Dash's knees trembled, causing him to stumble about. There simply wasn't enough energy left in him to attempt the tree again. "I think perhaps rest is the best for now." His eyes wandered back to this tree and his sense of pride created a small curl up the left side of his lips. The sensation made his reward, the chocolate frog, taste all the better. "So," he asked, clapping his paws together, "what do you eat here?"

Flash of course was the one to answer.
"Well there's an assortment or dried, roasted or raw meats and fish, as well as insects. Plants are just plants and usually turned into a salad or something. I wouldn't know, I don't like salads. Pretty much whatever you feel like eating."

"That sounds delightful," Dash said. Mere seconds afterwards the right side of his face exploded into agony. The dull headache became a throbbing between his ears and his scars lit ablaze with what felt like fire ants crawling over his skin and nipping at his sores. It took everything in his power to keep from screaming out. Instinctively, he brought his paw to the offended portion of his body. The rubbing soothed a little of the ache, at least enough for his trembling paws to reach for the ointment in his pouch.

He would drop the container from his trembling hands twice before finally being able to open it. Once applied the medicine did manage to take the edge off of the pain, at least enough to continue. Though, now his appetite was shot. "Perhaps bed would be better."

Lindarin rose an eyebrow, and before he could say anything Flash was on Dash in a moment. "Are you okay? Do you need help? What happened? Do you need some water? Or another chocolate frog?"
"HUsh Flash he is clearly not feeling well. You're welcome to stay with us at SugarSand, although watch out for Nahnu, she guards the entrance even though we don't have a guard, no-one knows why, only that we haven't been raided in a while, and visitors who leave don't generally come back unless escorted out. We believe it's her, but she won't move."
