Your destination is the flying ship where the Mistral Masquerade is taking place. You quickly notice it because it’s the one filled with dragons wearing all kinds of fancy costumes. The gold of jewelry and the bold colours of silks catch your eyes. The ship is filled almost to bursting, and you can’t find any safe place to land. But you have a nice view of the masquerade from up here, so you decide to circle over the ship and observe the event from above. You would have liked to take part in the masquerade too, but at least this way you won’t miss everyone else’s costumes! You have a lot of fun looking at all the entrants parade up and down in front of the public and the judges. So many dragons have come from all corners of Sornieth to show off their best festive attire, the judges take a super long time to announce the winners. Finally, the contest ends and the crowd disperses, heading towards other events and games. It’s time for you to land your kite, but you’ve been flying for a long time and you realize that you haven’t eaten or drunk anything for what feels like ages. You struggle with your kite for the longest time, fighting against the strong wind, until finally you manage to land on the flying ship. With some regret you realize that it’s later than you imagined. Some of the events are already over -- but the good thing is, you’ve made it to the Mistral Jamboree, and there is still time for you to have lots of fun playing all the games that are left! The wind takes you in its grasp and you billow around like a leaf. You try to maneuver the kite towards the flying ships but the current is simply too strong to withstand. In the end, you’re forced to give up and just hope that the wind will take you where you want to go. For a moment you think the wind will just carry you away and you’ll end up who knows where, but then the kite lifts up and carries you straight towards the biggest ship. Kites from the contest are being flown all over it, and you’re afraid you might crash into one of them and plummet to the ground, but your kite just zips through them without any harm. You laugh with delight: it’s as if some unseen hand is guiding you along. Then you turn around and you see the Windsinger, flying next to you. “You’ve come a long way to join the celebrations, young dragon,” he says. “I’ve been watching your adventures today.” You’re so surprised, you can only stammer some kind of reply and stare at him open-mouthed. He seems amused by this. The Windsinger lets your kite land on a platform just off the side of the main celebration hub and watches as you step away from the kite. “What a nice kite they made. My children have outdone themselves with this year’s Jamboree,” he says. “And you’ll have quite a tale for the storytelling contest: secret maps, unlikely beastclan allies, lucky and daring leaps...” He grins at you. “And don’t forget the party favours!” He motions towards the kite, and you notice that it’s now propped against a small pile of presents. You’re certain that they weren’t there before, but here they are, all wrapped in shiny green and silver paper and with your name on them. You turn around to thank the Windsinger, but he’s already flying away, one hand raised in salute. “Have fun partying with my childreeeeen!” he calls, and then he disappears in the distance. You aim for the cluster of large ships that are all flying together, and the wind takes you so close that you can see that there’s some kind of music competition going on, and you hear snatches of songs. Then a stronger gust of wind picks up from the north, blowing you off course. You try to right yourself, but the current is too strong to withstand. The Cloudsong is getting smaller and smaller as your kite flies away. You try to turn the kite around, but an ominous creaking noise tells you that it would be a very bad idea to try and fight the wind. The kite is falling apart! This is why it was thrown away -- there must have been some unseen fault in its construction. Fortunately, you’re now far enough from the Twisting Crescendo and the wind isn’t so strong here, so you manage a safe landing. Looking around you see you’ve ended up somewhere in the Zephyr Steppes. Your journey has taken you through all the Windswept Plateau and back to the starting place, and now it’s too late for you to reach the festival. It seems as if luck is on your side because it brings you directly above the largest flying ship. You’ve finally reached the Jamboree, and just in time for the cooking contest judging from the smells below! Just as you’re looking for a safe place to land, you notice a flock of birds flying towards you. With growing alarm you realize that the birds have mistaken the birds painted on your kite for real birds. Thinking that their territory has been invaded, the birds are attacking! They tear a rent in the paper of your kite, and you start losing altitude quickly. Beneath you, the dragons are distracted by the festival and nobody has noticed you. You’re going to crash in the middle of the flying ship! You brace yourself and close your eyes, but instead of a crash you find yourself lifted up by a giant hand and gently placed on a larger platform. The Windsinger himself has come to your rescue! “Be careful young dragon,” he tells you. “You’ve come too far to fail just when you’re in sight of the goal.” With a smile and a wink he points you towards the festivities. “You should try the herbal tea from the food stalls, it’s just the thing to reinvigorate you after your journey.” In the blink of an eye he’s gone, flying away who knows where. You’ve made it: you’ve finally reached the Mistral Jamboree! So when and how do we pick/get out prizes? And yah! Thank to for holding this. It was great!

This was pretty fun, although I wish some of the choices had been more logical rather than what seemed like randomization. I literally stared at the World Map for twenty minutes in scene four, plotting my route...that turned out to be completely wrong, even if it disagreed completely with the layout of the world. :C I did better at the start than at the end, lol.

I guess a sense of randomness means everyone has an equal chance, but I do wish some choices would've made a little more sense and perhaps could've been figured out by logic (like the signpost). Literally all the kites were completely random. Why did the Windsinger help every kite except the one with himself on it? Trying to look humble, are you, Windsinger?

Congrats to the winners, though! I'd enter again next year. Or next month if one's being held then.
