MAGIC TRICK
#1
Thank you to Fantastea for the above art
---->It’s another sunny day over the Starfall Isles, where everything that could go right has a ninety-seven percent chance of going wrong. At the Observatory, a multitude of Fae and other dragons are running about, trying to complete their experiments. After all, the graduation ceremony for their four houses is coming up, and every student wants to present their best handiwork.
---->A small, dark-colored Fae by the name of Delphi runs through the jam-packed corridors of the library. She trips over a test tube on the ground (who left that there?!) and slams into the nearest bookshelf. Thankfully, a Fae’s weight isn’t enough to tip it over, but unfortunately, it
is enough to knock a large binder, sitting on the tallest shelf, towards the edge - whereupon it wobbles, tips, and comes crashing down on the poor Fae’s head.
---->It lands with a loud clatter, and she hits the ground with almost enough force to immortalize her face into the floor. The binder flips open beside her. Still reeling from the gratuitous double-smack, the Fae turns weakly to see what in the name of the Arcanist had just given her a near-concussion. She first considers sending the assailant up in pretty pink flames, but then her eyes catch on several lines of notebook scribbles. It’s a magical recipe, and an advanced one at that. This is it! This is what will allow her to shine on graduation day! Fluttering her fins excitedly, she snatches the binder off the floor and drags it to where her friends and classmates wait.
---->“Vanya. Runewing. Look at this,” she says to her friends, her fins humming. “With this ritual, we can make Dad proud.”
---->“It looks okay to me,” a Fae, whose dark blue wings are touched with black, says. The books he carries identify him as Vanya. “But what worries me is the timing. The recipe says it needs penumbral energy, which means it can only be done during a lunar eclipse.”
---->“Didn’t the last lunar eclipse just pass last night?” A pink Fae - Runewing - hovering above them wonders aloud. “That means it’s at least twenty-seven more days before the next full moon - and that’s to say nothing of the five months for the next eclipse if we’re lucky. Graduation will be more than over then.”
---->“If only there was some way to cause a lunar eclipse...” the dark blue Fae muses. Delphi perks up.
---->“I’ve heard the shadowmancers in the Tangled Wood are very skilled,” she says, a wave of excited movement running up and down her frills. “Perhaps they can help us.”
---->“I’ve heard of that as well, but normally it’s only shadows of actual, sizeable objects, not the shadow of the entire planet,” Vanya says. “Unless...it can be applied on a
slightly larger scale?”
---->“We could amplify their magic with ours,” Runewing begins to theorize. “And if we get more than one Shadowling to do it, we might be able to cause a lunar eclipse... Hey, that kind of, sort of, maybe might possibly work?”
---->“Then what are we waiting for?” Delphi demands. “Let’s go.”
