Sure, the temperature dropped, and on occasion things may get a little frosty, but that was about the extent of it. Most dragons who lived there liked it that way, too. Pumpkin was originally from the Southern Icefield, and while she adored her current clan and their place of residence, each new winter would plant a seed of yearning in her heart for that which was fluffy, cold, and white (and no, she didn't mean the Icewarden). So maybe that was why this year, after more than a few green winters have come and gone, she started developing a new spell. While the rest of her clan tended to the land and fretted about what to get for their friends and clanmates, she had holed up in her workshop, thinking up a way to get what her heart yearned for without damaging the life around her. She was close, so close! Not quite there yet, but the finish line was in her sight! A grin adorned her face as she figured a way out of one of the more challenging issues with her work-in-progress spell... hopefully, this meant her holiday gift to the clan would be wrapped up and delivered right on time. Absently, Athris ran a claw gently down the back of their feline companion, who'd been their faithful partner since their pirate days. The creature purred and raised its tail, swishing it back and forth. A snowflake landed on its ear, and it shook its head rapidly. Athris huffed a laugh and stroked its ear. December 1st, Athris thought. The clan would be packing up the caravan and heading east soon. East, towards the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Towards home. After two years, Athris was going home. It was the first snow that had seen the clan of the Called gathered. Ophanim the Many-Eyed, the Sentinel, had seen this day coming well in advance, and Tenebrae the Clan-lord had seen to the preparations himself.

“We have plenty to see us through for the Winter?” He finally asked Sunshadow. She nodded. “There is food enough, and all shall be warm, and have places to sleep. Our clan is at peace, our Innocent rests - “

“and there is no more Shade in this place.” The curcuit-scaled Ridgeback Kyril added the news, the proof of it in the quiescence of his hide, through which no warning glow coursed.

“Very well,” smiled the dark Tundra. “Then our work begins.” He walked outside to those gathered there in the twilight. “Does everyone know where they are going?” He called out. “Then begone, my people, and do not return til you have nothing in your claws to show for the work done!”

And through that night, many eyes, many more than Ophanim’s, moved through the darkness, through the air, overland, between the many far flung lairs. Eyes of all flights that lived, dragons of all forms, spread silent through the realm. At each lair, gifts were left; food and clothing, toys and tools and ores, before their bearers slipped away in the growing darkness.

For the clan of the Called, kept only what they needed. They willed to live for others’ sake, and the cold and tired voyagers returned with nothing, to warm beds and welcoming mates, happier at what they had given than they were for what they had.

Ice sprite please.

When the weather had started to chill the Clan retreated towards the back of the cave. Every morning Duskray was usually the first up but always the one to check the weather. This morning as she was going to the opening a chill breeze was blowing in and the closer she went she found whisps of snow dancing in the breeze. As she reached the opening she found that there was a full blown snow storm going.

By now the Clan was beginning to stir and gathering around the fire pit. As usual she started giving the weather report to all that were gathered. When she mentioned that there was a full blown snow storm outside it was like she set off an alarm clock. Suddenly the hatchlings were up and everyone under a year old were swarming to the entrance.

Outside they fled some slipping and falling while others landed on their stomach like a sled. As the ones that were around for previous winters caught up and started to show the young ‘uns what they could do with the snow. This soon broke out into a free for all snowball fight. The more artistic ones went off to the side and started sculpting snow dragons. Then as the fight started to settle down more started to make things out of the snow. The elders stood or sat in the entrance and watched the chaos and eventually into a more orderly play. Duskray was at the entrance and gathered up enough of the blown snow to make 1 snowball. She had learned from the previous years that someone would try to hit her. Well just on point a snowball came hurtling towards her and she saw who threw it and as she ducked she threw hers and hit them dead center to there great amazement. And with that all the elders had a good laugh.

It was now time for the older dragons to get breakfast and start the day. Leaving the young out playing cause it was certain that once the smell of breakfast drifted out the entrance there would be a gathering of hungry mouths to feed and likely more hungry than usual today.
