"My my... what have we here?" He shifted his breastplate and did his best to stand up before the lean purple beauty before him. His dark eyes looking her up and down while his lips curled into a grin. As he swayed over to her she shifted uneasily, trying to retain her authority but the dark mirror exuded an air of mischief. "E-excuse me?" Kaira stretched her long slender neck and gave the mirror a wary eye. She wasnt about to let some upstart smart-mouthed dragon get the better of her. "I was merely asking for assistance i-" "Assssssisssstanceeee?" Gaebolg chuckled and leaned back onto his haunches, his tail moving like a snake behind him. "You know what you need sweety?" "Um.. well I was jus-" "NO! That's not what you NEED, darling. What you neeeeeeed is what I got. You want it. You need it. Yes?" "Ah... no I- " "Oh your right... a fine lady such as yourself needs a real dragon, not one such as myself. No please..." He waved a paw at her and turned away with great dramatic flair. Wiping away a false tear and casually scratching the gems in his forearm. Kaira tried to say something but the words just could not come up as Gaebolg let out a deep pitiful sigh. "Don't try to placate me..." With a fluttering of his shimmering wings he slinks up beside Kaira and nuzzles up her side and strokes her arm. "But don't worry my dear, I have many more things to offer, just look here..." With a slow moving of his arm he reaches under his breastplate in a way that makes Kaira gasp in surprise as he suddenly yanks our a small letter. "FISH! This is the log of the next shipment from Ocelot clan and YOU have this one-time-never-before-seen-again offer today to jump on this. So, what say ye my darling. All the fish for you and your... friends?" He grinned hopefully as the worn piece of paper flopped limply between his claws.

Are you here to help clear the pests from these waters?', or along the lines of that." The quick Spiral and small Nocturne bounced away from each other just as the Imperial crashed down onto his front paws--having sent a devastating wave of force at the large blue rune-covered matna-creature. "I don't care what she said, just shred the blasted thing!" The others rebounded back to each take a punishing swipe at the large beast that was currently building up energy to blast them again. With a moaned howl the Mantarune opened its mouth and violently projected an icy breath at the one currently grappling with it. "GAH!" The copper bedecked male went down. "Javier!" The others screamed in unison before barreling head first into the side of the wounded beast. They had been working together to eliminate it quickly but the team's energy had flagged long before their opponent did. Chipping away at its health had been their only option and it proved a trusty strategy as with a final sickening crack the sea-fiend keeled over with a wet gurgling sound. The Nocturne flew to their larger friend's side, ignoring the spoils that seeped from one of the many gashes along the belly of the beast. He put his small hands over Javier's chest while their third companion tried to feel along his limp neck. The Nocturne snapped up his head. "Nothing! Xtuzek--" "I have potions," the Spiral, Xtuzek, answered without looking up. At his side an Autumn Dryad whispered words of comfort and power as she held a bottle filled with a golden colored liquid. "Thank you," Xtuzek took the curative when offered. "Now he just needs to drink it," but unconscious as he was that meant a bit of coaxing on their part. "Here," he held the bottle out for the Nocturne to take. The smaller dragon didn't respond. Xtuzek frowned. "Hey." Nothing. "Mangrove!" The sound of his name broke the Nocturne from his dark thoughts. "Ah?" "Get Javier to drink this, or have your bird do it." Now was the worst possible time for them to lose their heads. There were creatures everywhere waiting for a moment of weakness like this.... They had been training for months, picking their way along the domains to get to this point. The Kelp Beds were full of food and other elements in short supply back in the Shifting Expanse. Now that they were strong enough they could bring other members of their clan out here to hunt and forage for food... or goodies, like Javier. "He's breathing again," Mangrove smiled. Even Javier's faithful Shadow Serpent seemed more relaxed tucked as she was inside his copper vest. "I should think so," Xtuzek chuckled. "I wouldn't peg something like that rune-beast to put our powerhouse down for long. Why," he bent over the other dragon to look him in the eyes... upside-down, "How many times have each of us been knocked senseless over these last few weeks? And you think a little tap of ice will put a Lightning blessed down?" The green hued dragon snorted. "No, but I figured breathing the water might." "Ah, well," couldn't argue with that. "I think we've managed to polish off enough of these rays. What's say be go topside once he's awake?" "Agreed. Oh! The marks," with a slight nudge Mangrove sent his Raptorik Warrior over to gather up the proof that they'd killed the beast. "If the tally is right--and we didn't always manage to salvage anything from the bodies," Javier hastily added, "Eight Runed Helms plus five Barnacle-Encrusted Relics--" "--Not to mention ten Spotted Stingrays and five Coral Dwellers," Xtuzek supplied. "I'd say we managed to kill off at least twelve of the Mantarune and another six to eight of the Wavesweepers." "We hope that helps," Mangrove piped up. ((OOC: So.... It had the looks of a ridgeback, but was clearly just as much a part of the workshop as any cyborg lumen, machine tracker, or old golem. Its skin - her skin - had a rusty sheen, but the plates still looked still resistant, sturdy. The eyes were dark, and she didn’t move in response to their entrance. Was she broken, or merely deactivated? Whichever the case, Lyn would be the one to wake her up again. Without thinking twice, he flew towards her. --------- Hisae had a very bad feeling about the situation. So far, that couldn't have been said for any other room they'd stepped in. But neither that, nor the dragon golem’s isolation was the cause of her unease. It was the fact that Lyn was tinkering with it, and Hisae didn’t like the idea of it coming alive. And yet, that was the whole reason they were here, wasn’t it? The big finale to their quest. There was no turning back now. Hisae would just have to be prepared to protect Lyn if - when - something went wrong. Minutes passed, with nothing but the tapping of Lyn's tools on the creature. He had opened up the chest cavity, which was somewhat disturbing in itself. But it hadn't activated immediately after contact, so that was a good thing, Hisae supposed. Maybe it was too old? Their seashore break had been too short, in Trillia’s opinion. She could have happily idled there another week, stuffing herself with fish. But Lyn had gotten antsy, being so close to their destination, and they’d returned inland to seek out the Workshop at last.

Damn machines! Trillia cursed inwardly as she grabbed another one of the flying sentries that were similar to turkeys, but much less guttable.

Also harder to crush in one paw, but still not impossible.

She let go of the remains of the creature, and the metallic sound it made as it clanged to the floor died away.

Annoying creatures. So loud. Attacking on sight like that, too... This Workshop was hellish.

But at least they’d arrived. The quest was nearly fulfilled. Now where was the dragon golem hiding?

The Workshop was a marvel, and it took all of Lyn’s self-control to press on, deeper into its twisting hallways. After each encounter with one of the robotic creations, all he wanted to do was pull out his tools and pour over them. But there would be time enough for that later, he was sure. The dragon golem was more important, and he had to find it first. The trackers, the sentries, the golems, they were all magnificent works of engineering, but he knew they were not what he had come here for.

Even if the dragon golem itself was a myth, there had to be something big hidden in the Workshop’s depths. Something important. Maybe the reason why the creator had been rejected by the Stormcatcher. Maybe an ultimate creation, the reason to protect the Workshop.

Something would be at the end of all this. He knew it. He could feel it.

Lyn carefully stepped over the fallen body of a Swift Lumen. He had never seen tech augmentation applied to wildlife before, but as far as he could see, it was flawless, and beautifully applied. Not many understood the need for aesthetic when working on machines, but to a real engineer it is important, and the Creator had evidently taken beauty into account when working.
