4. When the hatchlings are born, you cannot just immediately exalt them or sell them over the Auction House. On the contrary, you must ensure every hatchling gets a long-term home. I exalt dragons as part of my lore- so this rule is going to be nixed as I can guarantee the majority of these hatchlings will be exalted come dragonhood.

  • If you end up selling someone a hatchling and they change their mind and either resell or exalt it, then you are not held accountable for it; after all, the matter at that point would have been out of your hands. However, it might be wise to not sell that person another hatchling for the duration of the challenge.

5. Repeat the process from finding a new mate to sending the hatchlings off to find long-term homes until all 100+ hatchlings have found a place they belong!

She raises the hatchlings alongside the temporary mates, but she can feel it deep down that the majority of them, mates and hatchlings alike, will answer the Call of the Sea. They will inevitably leave her to become one with the waves. Some may stay a while, others mere days, but she does her best to love them for what little time she has with them. It's softening her, to a degree, and now that her home is a safe haven, she's alright with letting go of those old fears and misgivings.

Kraken was the only reason Lyn hadn't practically murdered one of them after they kept babbling on and on and on- why she got along so with the Ice Dragoness she really couldn't say, but her best friend was keeping her sane these days. She hadn't even had any time to train with Ana! How could she call herself a proper healer if she hadn't the time to train with the best healer the Alliance had? So lost in her thoughts was the young Druid that she didn't notice the Skydancer in front of her, needless to say, she ran into him. "Oh, I am so sorry," She started saying immediately, rambling a bit until she noticed him chuckling at her. "What? Why are laughing?" She may have chosen the realm of water, but the fiery temper hidden deep within her was beginning to flare, she was not a stranger to looking after herself after all. "Ah, nothing really, I'm just not used to beautiful dragons running into me, normally they're running the opposite direction." He said with a sly voice. Lyn simply gave him a deadpan look, after the day she had had, she didn't really care for being held away from her bed by a dragon who wanted to compliment her. "Arach," She said simply. "Hmm?" He cocked his head to the side, his antennae draping in an oddly alluring manner. "Arach, not dragons," She explained, "We are the Alliance of the Avatir Arach not the Alliance of the Avatir Dragons. Even if they do practically mean the same thing." "Well... at least it sounds nice, but why the fancy words? Couldn't you have chosen something... simpler?" Lyn shrugged, "Don't ask me, it was Kraken's idea- something about needing a spark or something. Anyways, please pardon me, I need to sleep after the day I had." "Understandable, I'll see you around then, names Clockwork, by the way." "I know- I was there when you arrived, I'm Lynaril, though everyone calls me Lyn." "See you around, Lyn." He let her walk off after that, but she had a feeling that wouldn't be the last she saw of him. --- Two weeks after her initial meeting with Clockwork, Lyn still had no idea how she'd ended up in this situation... She was curled up around two eggs, her very first nest, watching the blue Skydancer sleep happily, his wings and tail curled around the eggs as if he couldn't get close enough to them. She really didn't care about having a family or hatchlings- really didn't care about having a mate, but... she couldn't deny that there wasn't some pleasant feeling to this moment. As she was soaking in the sight, a faint scritching noise caught her sensitive ears, and she turned her attention to the egg closest to her. Within moments Clockwork was awake, and fully alert- how the lazy dragon could wake himself so quickly, she had no idea, but he was ready for the hatchlings to arrive, and she... not so much. The first hatched easily enough, a dark male like his father, but a Pearlcatcher like herself, only this time with eyes as blue as the sea. Almost immediately he began to chomp on his eggshell, scaring Clockwork until Lyn explained to him the process of how a Pearlcatcher's pearl came to be. He was momentarily disgusted but then the second egg began to crack and his attention was off of her once more. The second was also dark like her father with the same stature as her mother, but her eyes were as dark as the bottom of the ocean- and Lyn knew, she just knew, that in that moment, her daughter was going to leave her for the waves eventually. Not immediately, no, but soon- and with how her brother was cuddling up to her, he would probably follow. Clockwork seemed to recognize this face as well, for he crept closer to the hatchlings, turning extremely gentle, a vast difference from his exuberant nature just a few seconds prior. She would help him care for the two, but when they left, she could gather that he, in a way, would also.

Clockwork was distant with her, which she could understand- seeing as their only hatchlings had taken to the sea almost immediately after growing into their adult bodies, but it still hurt to have lost a friend, which is how she had seen him. So she threw herself into training with the Champions, practically ignoring everyone, even her best friend Kraken, for a while, until eventually Cadha and Ana told her that they could teach her no more. Had it really been that long? In her training days she had even morphed into different markings, a new type of camouflage for her future hunts- and when she finally took note of the changes, she had to admit to herself that she really appreciated the change. The bar-like markings were much nicer than the tiger ones, and they fit more with the watery realm now- it was another step away from the memories of flame and misery. She started speaking with Kraken and her adopted daughter again- even getting to know Riluma and Iriehara who she had met when they entered the Alliance, but hadn't spoke a word to since they joined. It all helped to keep her mind off of her first nest and Clockwork, and she truly thought she was beginning to heal from her loss. But when a newcomer to the Alliance approached her asking her to have a nest with her, she really, really wasn't sold to the idea. He was quite persistent, for a newcomer, and she really debated getting Kraken and Cadha to just kick him out for good, but the soft side of her eventually caved... it wasn't like she had to get attached to them or anything. Like Clockwork had done before, he was curled tight against the eggs, four this time, while unlike before, she kept herself further away, it would hurt less if she didn't care so much. It wasn't long before the four eggs hatched, one after the other, and each preciously similar to her. Kalen looked quite disappointed that only one had inherited anything from him, but Lyn was lost in another sea of blue eyes and a feeling that she very well might lose them all again. One, only one of the four chose to leave the group curled up with their father- and he meandered over to her, having barely finished gorging himself on his eggshell. Maybe, just maybe, she wouldn't lose them all. "Kaleryn" Lyn whispered to the little Arach, "You'll be my little Kaleryn." Later that night, Lyn found that the only daughter had vanished- with Kaleneiros, and so she was left alone with three hatchlings, only one of whom seemed to want anything to do with her, at least this time the loss wouldn't hurt as much... right? --- So I'm pretty certain I'm going to keep little Kaleryn, but the other two are up for sale on the AH- they will be exalted once they grow up. I have exalted Lynkalei and Kaleneiros, Lynkalei bc she met the color bonus of the day and I doubted I'd be able to sell her anyway, and Kaleneiros for lore sake.

I'll write up the lore tomorrow for the pre-nest, and the nest lore after the nest hatches. Maybe I'll throw in some misc lore with Lyn and Kraken as well...

Little Lynkalei and her father had vanished the day of the nest's hatching, and she knew in her heart that they had been called by the waves, many Arach far and wide had felt the calling and had chosen to stop by the Alliance on their way to the sea, but Lyn still mourned. She had raised Kalyeino and Lykareilos alongside their brother Kaleryn until they were grown into wonderful adults- and she and her youngest son watched as the other two young adults walked into the waves- answering the call that danced in their hearts, as it danced in the heart of her own. Still she refused to answer the call of the sea, the call of the water, as her task still was not complete. She had a long life ahead of her, a long life of learning, and healing, and caring for the Arach of the Alliance. And she could not forget that one of her hatchlings had chosen to remain with her- little Kaleryn, the one she had attached herself to on the day of his hatching, she knew that she would not be able to say goodbye to him without a struggle. Kraken, her best friend and closest companion, grieved alongside her. The young Skydancer had lost three of her hatchlings to the waves already, and several grandhatchlings as well. She knew the pain of losing those she bore and raised, but she also knew that Kraken wouldn't move from the Alliance while breath still remained in her body. The Alliance was home, and if not the Call of the Sea- there were other calls to be answered, for each deity tried to call their hatchlings home. Kraken helped Lyn raise her nest of hatchlings, helped her say goodbye to the two who were being called home to the sea, and tried to keep her busy and happy- without her growing distant once more. The two Matriarchs went to a seamstress together and had clothing fitted to each of them, they hunted and swam, flew and lazed about- and for once, Lyn could forget the pain that had passed, and just enjoyed the time with her friend. It was around that time that a blue Imperial came to join the Alliance, on his way to answering the call. He was young, but he had that look about his eyes, that need to return to the deity who had chosen him, a sort of feverish look to be seen in his Windy eyes. He was injured when he arrived, and Lyn had opted to help the stranger, as Ana was seeing to an injured pod of Maren who were friends with Luma. Duath was his name- and he came from faraway lands and many travels- as he told Lyn the stories while he worked. They grew closer, chatting away late into nights and continuing early in the mornings- and Lyn found herself enjoying his stories and simply spending time with him. So much so, that she didn't even blink when he asked her to sit a nest with him- for he wished to have hatchlings continue his legacy before he joined with the waves. Knowing it could all end in horrible pain and sadness, Lyn agreed anyways, she still had Kal and Kraken to help her through the aftermath... --- Three eggs were Lyn and Duath's prize, three eggs floating in a heated pool, waiting for their hatching day. Duath was calm and collected on the outside, but Lyn could see the happiness pulsing through his feverish looking eyes. He may never see them again, but he would see them at least once before his adventure took him to the sea. Lyn, on the other hand, was nervous. Would any of her hatchlings remain at her side? Would any of them care to stay with her in the Alliance, or even find a new home elsewhere? She hoped so. The eggs began to hatch- crackling and twitching all at the same time, this was unlike her other nests where they had cracked one at a time, patiently waiting their turn. No, these three were impatient, and appeared to be racing each other to the open air... or, she feared, the sea. All at once, the three eggs hatched, and her breath was taken by the beauty of her children. Two bore her markings and had begun to eat their shells in preparation of making their pearls while the other resembled her but with the leathery wings of her father. Duath and her exchanged ideas for names, until they eventually agreed on Luetha, Luatha, and Lyatha- similar names for the triplets, the ones who had raced to their birth. Duath spent the first night and day with them, pouring adoration upon the three hatchlings, and on Lyn as well, before he eventually made his goodbyes. The call was too strong, he told Lyn when she asked him why he wouldn't remain, and she would eventually see him again, when the call became to strong for her- though he hoped that would be a long time coming. Patience, he told her, for he did not wish to see her anytime soon - she must take care of herself and find the time that was right to her, to rejoin him within the waves. It was interesting, to Lyn, that she did not grieve when he bounded into the waves with a throaty laugh chiming its way into the wind. He was not like Clockwork who had pulled away from her, or Kaleneiros who had vanished into the night, but one who wished her well, asked for no commitments, and instead had told her that he wished her many mates and hatchlings in the future, and informed her that he would look out for her hatchlings on the other side, those who chose to answer the call of the sea. Lyn thought that comforting, in an odd way, and when Kraken came to check up on her later, the starlight cloaked dragon found Lyn humming and cooing over hatchlings who would never stay at her side, but ones that she would love and care for anyways. She had many heartbreaks ahead of her, but she also had many who would help heal those wounds, to make more room for more Arach to share her love, to join her evergrowing family. --- [columns] Luetha [nextcol] Lyatha [nextcol] Luatha [/columns] All three hatchlings are for sale or adoption. So we're aiming to upgrade Lyn's genes, keep an heir that does, and then try to upgrade that heir's genes at the same time. It won't be the main part of this post, and any lore about it would fall under the misc Alliance lore subsection, but it should prove fun as well ^_^
