Yarrow's Travel Log

The journey is finished!
It all started with an innocent idea of a journey, to check out some flights. Not much later it grew out to ALL the flights! So I thought some of you might be interested in my experiences. Anything in this post is based on my opinion and experiences, and nothing is general information about the flights. Please keep this in mind if you happen to choose your clan's home based on my descriptions. Thank you! <3

NOTE:
I left the site due to real-life events around December 2019 and came back on April 1, 2022 (not as a joke, hehe). So this hiatus was almost 2.5 years long. This is the reason of the long break between Earth and Lightning.

There were 'Free for Newbies' stuff everywhere and too many comments. I remember, that I saw a fresh topic, which had been posted like 5 mins ago and there were already SIX PAGES of comments. I couldn't pick up the pace, so left immediately. I didn't want to fight for free stuff like it's Black Friday or something. I wrote a small description about myself and said hi to everyone and get a few feedback, which was nice. It was a little stressful, to be in a flight with so many members and do not know how anything works, but no one answered my questions. Not because they were rude, but even if I 'bumped' it many times, no one could saw it, since there was too many posts... After the first shock I start to understand, that if I want attention, I need to be in the flow so I did. I was posting way too much things, mostly useless, meaningless craps, but that's how I picked up the steps. As far as I can see, Wind never stops, not even for a minute. It's active all day, all night, so if anyone posted anything it's likely to get a feedback in 5 minutes. Windies are full of energy (hyperactive, to be honest) and very caring with each other. Don't wait for anyone to stop only to listen to your news, on the other hand they will always try to cheer you up if you have a problem by pull you out of the depression with their positive auras. They love their Doodledad. And when I say love, I mean super-hyperactive-a littleagressive-pure-fulloflove adoration. If you look at a forum topic it's 70% chance to meet a comment about how much they miss their Hotdad, not talking about the profile page of him. And if you join to this flight, you will feel the same after a few days. [/columns] [columns] They don't care much about the dominance and colisseum stuff. However, they have some dom-push event and almost every member take a part from it. Not just trainers, but babysitters, fodderkeepers and much more. They get super hyped on those weeks I was speechless each time, it was amazing. Many of them go on a vacation called it an adventure, to feel more windie in their heart. And it works! Most of them comes back and loves their original flight even more than anytime before. Sharing their experiences on the forums and everyone is excited to read them. Like a lovely family. Windies are artists. Even those ones, who don't do any 'art' stuff. They adore each others works and often gives feedbacks and use them in bios or lores. When they talk about any kind of art, they sound like experts even if their knowlege is not so big. It was hard to say goodbye to my flight. I was sure, that I will come back, but didn't know when. For the first time in forever I was going to change flight. I was nerveous but excited at the same time. I have written my last topic on the Wind forum two days before I packed up. They wished me luck and to have a great journey. I knew I will miss them. I knew nothing about water, I never saw their members on the forums, barely any dragons from this flight. And I quickly found the reason: this is a very small flight. Interestingly enough, they are not as tight-knit as one may expect, or at least I couldn't see it during my stay. There were barely any activity in the forums, almost no new posts, almost 0 comments on the existing ones. (There were many guides though, if I recall it correctly, so it's probably a great place for someone new to start.) After Wind this was shocking to me and I found myself feeling like I'm alone in the middle of the ocean. I can't say much about the members as I barely met any. On the rare occasion I ran into a member, they were usually friendly but the type that I find very distant. I think they may have busy lives and don't spend too much time on the site, but that's only speculation. So the mystery is actually simple: they aren't as active as other players. That's all. It was a lonely six months and at about the half I was already looking forward to finally move on from here. The lore and looks were not for me, I hatched the dragons I wanted and I really wanted some social interactions. Probably this waiting period is the reason I don't have too many good memories of this flight. It's not a bad one, but clearly not matching my interests. By this time I decided to make a big Adventure out of my journey which was supposed to be a vacation to Water and Ice. I got bombed with memes under my hello post. What a perfect way to welcome new members! :D Though it felt like they are more likely the 'suddenly enthusiastic' type of people who lost their interest quickly since I never got answers to my questions. No bad feelings, I think it's funny. :D Icicles absolutely adore animals, especially pets and to be more exact cats. I think the majority of the site's catpeople are in this flight, no joking. They are also big meme generators, I laughed a lot during my stay. They care deeply about their lore even if they don't have a written one. Their dom activity doesn't exists most of the time, but they surely give in what they got when it's push time. They breed their dragons a lot. Like seriously, insane amount of ice dragons hatch in every minute. I think it's mainly because the flight's eye color is pretty neutral, making it an easy match to any color palette a dragon may have. I have a feeling that most people stay in this flight for mainly this exact reason, but I may be wrong. I loved those eyes too, and still miss them dearly. I enjoyed this community a lot, and will surely visit them again someday. Until then, I will just remember the time I spent here warmly. And figure out breeding projects for the eyess. :D [/columns] [columns][nextcol] Nests: ~45 Eggs: ~80 Kept: 4[/columns]

It's interesting how all of them talked about the same topic but each was different, so I didn't get bored, not even after the 10th comment about Mather. It was lovely. I was an active member of this flight - in the first few weeks. Then I stopped using the forum, since no one answered to my posts/comments. I was so excited about Fire that I made some meme gifs for them and tried to start a forum game. (Which was never get popular or anything, because of the lack of interest.) The people in this flight like classic things, probably the reason they choose Fire on a dragon pet site. There are many subspecies, each with well written lore and exact ideas. Flambebes are one of the main things, I also got one during my stay. It seemed to me that they take dragon breeding very seriously, it usually have some sort of purpose. The random why-not nests are not as usual here as they are elsewhere. As for general lore, they don't quite follow the fire aesthetic, but they do love to tell stories around the bonfire. I didn't have much time but wanted to do it immediately, so this is my shortest 'hello' since I started FR. I'm sorry guys, I wish I had more time to explain who am I and why am I in your flight. However a few member came to welcome me and this means they dunked me into the Wyrmwound. I belonged to here after that. Cool!! (I heard about this ritual before, but it surprised me anyway.) As far as I can see, these guys care for each other and read the all (or at least a few) comments before posting theirs. Very good point. I have to admit, I was a little scared of this flight's aesthetic. I wasn't sure if I like gore and weird stuff enough to be comfortable in a place that themes around these topics. Turned out I was afraid unnecessarily. Plague offers a lot more than creepy stuff and bacteria, that one may not notice first. It's an odd flight for sure but in a very good sense. Plaguelings are a group of warm-hearted people who created a nice community anyone can enjoy. They are welcoming to everyone who joins the flight. (as you might read above) The forums are not as active as I expected except when it comes to helping others and dom pushes. We were almost always in the top 3 so I could enjoy the bonuses basically all the time. I wasn't very much of a participant in the dom, but I was happy others were. What a perfect time to start my journey there! I also got invited to take a part in their upcoming dom battle. :3 The in-flight forums weren't very active and it dropped my will to write comments and posts a lot. There were some forum games, and dragon-sharing treads which I loved. Based on my experience this flight mostly focused on dom in their forums which was definitely surprising to me! I knew some people from the flight who were into exalting and dom in general but I still didn't expect it to be general in such a calm-looking flight. :D Aaah Nature's aesthetics! I was obsessed with it. All the plants and flowers and soft leaves just make a place feel home to me. (Even IRL I have tons of plants in my apartment!) This flight surely puts a lot of effort into decorating forum posts, dragon bios, and anything they can. Their taste matched mine perfectly. Also the dragons! I saw many players with tons of dragons, all perfectly pretty (except for the fodders but in many cases they were nice as well??). The eye color of nature dragons looks amazing! I really loved them and the nest + egg design are my weaknesses. They are just way too pretty. I found the eye color sometimes a bit too dark, especially after the light windy eyes but it wasn't a big deal. I remember hatching some of my most beautiful dragons here. If I remember correctly Nature has many hatcheries and they are very into creating subspecies :D I also bought my first high-costed dragon from here! (125kt). [/columns] I'm writing this 2 years later and it seems like I forgot to say goodbye to Nature. What a shame! :( I'm sorry guys, I think I was in a rush to change flight since life happened... I left the site not much after my arrival to Earth.. Unfortunately, I wasn't very active during my time here. But I still enjoyed it. Earth members are calm and very kind to everyone. You would not have problems following what's going on on the forums or in the flight in general. I think this is perfect for people who would like to take a good part of the forum but don't have enough time to visit it every day. There's not much new stuff on each day, I think it's perfectly enough to check in weekly or so. Members of Earth seem to be interested in dragons, and I noticed a growing interest lore-wise as well. Though when I arrived here I don't remember seeing anyone caring much about figuring out their lair's lore. Based on my previous experiences from other flights, Earth cares the less about it so far. This is not a problem especially in my case since my lore is in baby shoes even tho it's my seventh year on this site this year (2022). What they do care about is their people. The place is warm and welcoming, the members are friendly. It's a comfortable place to be (even though I think the design of their territory suggests the exact opposite). I only learned they have a discord just before my leaving, which is a shame. I wish I knew it sooner so I could join and enjoy the family-like community there too. [/columns] It wasn't a hard goodbye since I wasn't a very active member of the flight. I will still miss the small and calm place and those warm brown eyes. They were impressed by my travelings, some showed interest in trying something similar out as well! Their welcome was a bit like a "workplace welcome". Like I got into a new office or something. They were polite and asked questions about my journey and plans for the future too. Now let's get to work! I really enjoyed my time in Lightning! It was surely a fun place to be and I'm glad this was my next stop after my hiatus. The community is just great! A little after my arrival we had a DOM battle with Wind, and for the first time in forever, I actually participated in it very actively. Why? Simply because the flight's encouragement and community make you very excited about it. It even worked with me, who is usually not a very dom-type person. I bought tons of fodders, leveled them and all :D The in-flight games were nice and oh the badges! Amazing! More on this here. The employees are not just encouraging but very active as well! They know how to work together, and that's a great point (and very useful in dom matters). Also, I found that their support for each other makes you feel very much at home. I didn't feel like just a random traveler, but like I'm home. Even if it was just a stop on my journey. The forum is kind of slow, but I joined the discord group and that place was great! All the people were nice and fun. And, I had to say it, I didn't find more science/technology lovers here, than anywhere else. It was just an amazing workplace with great coworkers :D [/columns] My lair got a lot bigger during my stay here. It was mostly thanks to the new exciting start after my break from the site, but also the eyes! Lightning has one of the prettiest eyes on the site for sure! At first, I didn't like the nests' design, but it kind of grew on me over the months. I actually got very drained out after all the active stuff I did on-site while I was in this flight. Due to that, the last month I only visited about 3 times a week. And I almost missed my depart day, so I had to quickly say goodbye. I didn't have enough time to wait for any replies, unfortunately :c But! I'm already missing this community (and the sweet spreadsheets ofc). Must come back sometime, even if just for a vacation!

It was just an amazing workplace with great coworkers :D

My lair got a lot bigger during my stay here.

The members of Shadow all came quickly to help me feel at home and let me know about everything that has been going on during the time of my arrival. It was very helpful and I immediately could feel comfortable at my new stop. This is the largest flight in the game, but not as crazy active as one may expect. The forums are calm, but there's always some discussion going on. The members are energetic and supportive, one may surely find someone to talk with about basically any topic. They seem passionate about their aesthetics and praise the void. :D I thought these people will be edgy, and that's sort of true but in a more refined way than what I had in mind. They like to joke and play, I think many of these people are gamers. Maybe that's the reason they LOVE to write lore for their clans. They don't take it too seriously but I never saw any member without at least a basic personality description under each of their dragon. They seem to enjoy stories. Unfortunatelly I didn't succeed in my breeding projects (I wanted some Hollow Knight themed dragons) but it's fine. I really liked shadow's primal eyes, those flowing voids are just aah, so nice :D I will have a dragon with them, eventually.
