The last of the god-mechs groans and keels over, shattering on impact. The Ridgeback pilot hops out, ready to make a quick escape, but Piltover and Proletariat rush over and subdue the culprit easily. A quick glance around reveals that Knight and Xairathan have already captured the Fae; Nebilim and Elexei, the Mirror. The Stormcatcher heaves himself up onto his desk and takes a swig of burning-hot coffee from a large pile of thrown coffeemakers before speaking.
"THANK YOU ALL FOR SAVING ME," he rumbles. "I BELIEVE YOU MAY DESERVE A PAY RAISE." The supervisors snicker. "YOU HAVE DONE WELL IN YOUR INTERNSHIPS. YOU HAVE MY PERSONAL THANKS. THE SUPERVISORS SHALL SEE YOU BACK TO YOUR FACILITY SO YOU MAY COLLECT YOUR BELONGINGS. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR APPLICATION AND HARD WORK."
The great Lightning deity turns to the three dragons, who are doing their best to look anywhere but at the large dragon. "AS FOR YOU!" he booms. "I HEAR THERE ARE OPENINGS IN THE TESTING DEPARTMENT... AS LIVE DUMMIES. TAKE THEM AWAY!" At once, a bunch of hatchlings rush in from opened trapdoors, swarm the guilty dragons, and drag them into a series of dark corridors that you don't want to think about.
"I EXPECT A FULL DEBRIEFING ON MY DESK BY TOMORROW MORNING," says the Stormcatcher to the supervisors. "NOW GET BACK TO WORK!"
As you and the other interns leave the Stormcatcher's office, you can only ponder about the deity's casual reaction to the attempt on his life. If he can just dismiss you and want an after-action report the next day, do these things happen on a weekly basis?! You think you're better off not knowing.
The trip back to the facility is a short one, and aboard the nitro-powered desks, you take the opportunity to talk to a few of the worker dragons. "Oh, I'm going to miss you, darlin'!" bawls Twine, while Piltover attempts to soothe the sobbing Snapper whilst holding a handkerchief. Proletariat and Elexei are busy engaging each other in a game of ray-gun tag; Dodger is furiously writing a 100-page essay on why the culprits should stand trial and 1,004 reasons why they would be found guilty and sentenced to a lifetime of hard labor; Xairathan and Annie are standing to the side, discussing Hornhelms.
It is to the last dragon, the Coatl, that you find yourself speaking to. "So Annie, what's with all the secrecy?" you ask her. The Coatl straightens her feathers, a bit surprised.
"Oh, uh, that!" she giggles nervously. "Actually, uh-"
Xairathan takes over. "It's a bit complicated, but bear with me. We've been hearing rumors that the Carnivale was going to be attacked, so Annie and I, along with the other supervisors, started researching into the attackers. They just so happened to be Annie's old clan, from which she fled, and she was more than happy to share her knowledge with us. With that, we quickly deduced that the insider was no other than a robotic construct that had been shipped here from the Flamecaller's land, under the pretense of a regular Dragon Resources shipment."
"What we didn't know," Annie continues, "is that the robotic construct was actually intended to let the coalition of mercenaries in, rather than spy, as was normal for that clan." she sighs heavily. "I don't suppose we'll ever be able to tell poor Dodger this, but that murder could have been prevented. There's no use dwelling on it, though."
"Once we discovered that the coalition wasn't behaving as we predicted, we called a meeting of the supervisors and decided the best course of action was to continue as normal. This, unfortunately, led to this whole mess, for which we greatly apologize." Xairathan scratches at her hornhelm. "I will say, though, you acquitted yourself quite beautifully."
"Yes, indeed, I-" Annie glances away at another desk, where Fanservice is revving up his saxophone. "Oh god, I'm getting away from here!" she squeaks, and accelerates her desk furiously. Xairathan's eyes widen, and she makes to do the same- but her Hornhelm taps against the ignition, and the Skydancer is sent flying into the sky!
Looks like another regular day at Stormcatcher Industries... yep. Just another day.
