An Introduction
HARBINGERS bring news of the sick and other plagues to other clans, and are said to even be in touch with the Plaguebringer herself, for their knowledge of disease’s paths is uncanny. They are ‘Harbingers’, and they are almost always the Harbingers of Death.
The Lore of Harbingers
HARBINGERS were created by the Plaguebringer in order to announce her arrival. They are created from the remains of dead and rotting carcasses, and never truly gain a solid form. Instead, their wings are made of blood, and they leak incessantly.
When a Harbinger arrives at a clan, most panic and flee. Those who remain always perish of sickness, unless extreme precaution is taken the moment a Harbinger is spotted. Some suggest the Harbingers themselves bring the diseases, and rightfully so, while others argue they only foretell of what is to come. The Harbingers, indeed, are the carriers of the illnesses, not just the messengers, but are never barred from entering a clan for fear of the wrath the Plaguebringer may bring on a clan who refuses her servant.
The Reality of Harbingers
HARBINGERS do not, contrary to popular belief, always enjoy their spread of disease. For most it is a routine task, a part of their lives and the reason they exist. While some take sick joy in infecting clans and watching them struggle with diseases, others avoid healthy dragons and clans and hate the suffering their infections cause.
A Harbinger often wears rags and tatters, for no clothing stays whole and undecayed on them for long. Many cover most of themselves, trying to conceal their true nature from the unsuspecting world, and some even try to cover their wings with bandages, wraps, feathers, or anything that will stay on them. They are also partial to bone, as this is one of the few materials that won’t need constant replacement from rot. Metal can also work, though it tends to tarnish and corrode more easily around a Harbinger.
