The Ghost Sisters
Two sisters. Mere ghosts, haunting the Hilo Hills. Twins, alike, yet so very different. One, Hina Keahi, Goddess of Fire, as hot and passionate as the lava she sends coursing down the hillsides. The other, Hina Kuluua, Goddess of Rainfall, as cold and thunderous as the storm clouds that gather always about her. Two sisters, so alike in looks, so different in who they are. Unable to coexist with each other in any peaceful way, because fire dries up the rainfall, and rain puts out the fire.
Once, they were counted among the living. Then a great drought ravaged their lands, and the goddess Hina Keahi transcended the mortal plane to bring forth salvation for her people. Jealous of her sister, Hina Kuluua copied her sister’s actions, and fed herself to the fire, but she forgot that as the goddess of rainfall, she had no protection from the flames, and perished. Now they both haunt the hills they once called home.
Two sisters, alike, yet so different. One, the very elemental force of destruction, yet in the end so warm and giving. The other, the very source of our crops and our good health, yet so unpredictable and deadly when provoked. Two sisters, haunting the Hilo Hills for all eternity, so near to each other and yet so far apart. Opposing forces, guarding the lands they once called home. Dragons of Fire and Rain.
