Sebastian
The apparent leader of the newly formed clan, whose ambition is at odds with his reluctance to be included in dragon society. Born a raven who became a dragon by eating the heart of an unburied warrior, much of draconic culture is unfamiliar to him, and he is struggling to lead others when he does not even understand himself. He likes being a dragon... sometimes, and would like it better if he weren't quite so big. Generally he takes the form of a dragon-raven hybrid.
29430334.png
Tea
Although Sebastian was named the clan leader, Tea is the one that keeps the group together. He came from a former Plague clan, and so out of all of them has the most experience with how to do things properly. His soothing teas, as well, are of great help, and he's quickly becoming the one to go to when someone's troubled or when a dispute needs to be settled.
38217615.png
Clove
Before the group went in search of a magical disturbance, found Sebastian, and decided to name him as their leader, Clove was their unofficial head. Not that she particularly wished to be in charge, but for what their purpose was, a certain amount of management was needed--keeping tabs on the adopted hatchlings, making notes about potential future families--and she was the only one who seemed to actually like the work. Sometimes she takes the job of keeping things neat and organized and all in their proper place a bit too far, but she's happy enough to give up the leadership role.
38199718.png
Caliginous
The Nocturne is said to not be entirely a flesh-and-blood being, that they were created by the Shadowbinder herself out of fog and shadows. No one quite knows if this is true, but everyone believes it to be a possibility. It certainly would explain their ability to manipulate the mist that covers the Shadowlands, rendering the group invisible as needed--a useful skill to have when orphans needed to be rescued from dangerous locations. The ability hasn't yet been called upon after Sebastian's arrival, but it'll come in handy if ever the band makes enemies or needs to make a hasty retreat.
48202480.png
Aubade
One of the few rescued hatchlings who stayed on with the group, Aubade is a favorite of Tea's, and he always takes time to listen to her singing to the dawn each morning. In return she clears away the fog from his garden, ensuring his tea plants and fruit trees have enough sunlight--something that irks Caliginous greatly. The two are often at loggerheads, but it never becomes anything serious. Tea won't allow it.
28498208.png
Ramedar
Her instincts have always led her to travel to future battlesites and places of death-to-be; if she can, she averts the disaster, but if "future" becomes "present" and "to be" becomes "now", she serves as a healer, patching up the wounded. Some would become disheartened when their efforts to make things better routinely fail, but not Ramedar. No, there's no time to stop and mourn and grieve, for Sorneith is a wide world, and there's no end to the dangers it has to offer. Recently she followed her instincts to the Tangled Woods and has taken up living with a group of (mostly) Nocturnes.
46488178.png
Faraday
It's likely thanks to the healer Ramedar that the young Nocturne is alive--the band found him mauled and mutilated, but still trying to protect the as-yet unhatched egg of another orphan. Although badly wounded, now much of his damaged body has been replaced with metal and prostheses, and he can often be found improving the design. Faraday is continually tinkering and building, often experimenting for days on end--a true Lightning dragon, even if he was born to the Shadow flight.

Rescued Orphans and Visitors
In keeping with the group's original purpose, the band will still take in orphans and abandoned children, foster them for a while, and then send them off to new homes. Occasionally some may be invited to stay, but this is rare.
As well, the band is open to visitors, allowing them to stay for a time before leaving once more. Such visitors may come for a variety of reasons, and all are welcome unless they mean harm.
As Yet Unnamed
Found as an egg together with Faraday, she was one of the more recent orphans to be rescued and fostered. In spite of her close bond with Faraday, she has not been asked to remain with the band, but neither does she particularly seem to want to stay. After she leaves, though, it is quite likely she will remain in close contact with her friend.
46488045.png
As Yet Unnamed
Another orphan from the latest NotN, he cares little about the band. He carries out tasks requested of him, and is pleasant enough to be around, but his eyes are always fixed on the horizon--or what can be seen of it, in the dense forests. Evidently he's searching for something, but whether it's for his biological parents or a family to take him in, no one knows.
48202435.png
As Yet Unnamed
Usually the group sticks to just Nocturne eggs and hatchlings, but occasionally they do come across orphans of other breeds. This Tundra was found, oddly enough, in a nest all by theirself--common enough for Nocturnes, but not for others. Their position in the group is still shaky, although they've stated multiple times that the band is the only home they'll ever accept. Most view the orphan as a bit clingy, but they don't mind. Much.
48202461.png
Plautis
Plautis is, perhaps, the first true visitor the group's had. He, like many other young Nocturnes hatched during NotN, was abandoned, but luckily for him, his egg was left behind right in the middle of a clan's camp. He was cared for and raised well, although as he grew the desire to wander, to see the world, grew as well. Sooner rather than later he found himself travelling to the Tangled Woods, where he met the band, and asked to stay with them for a while. The length of stay is currently unknown, but it is clear he will not remain with the band forever.

The Band of Ravens is not currently seeking out alliances, and is definitely avoiding making enemies. However, if they come across groups with similar interests, they will not be opposed to forming an alliance with such groups.

Our group sensed a magical disturbance coming from this area, and we thought it best to check it out. When we got here, there was just… this. We didn’t know what to do, really, but we buried the bodies and… well, now we’re just waiting for them to wake up.” This voice was softer, somehow, less certain. He took the information in, trying to make sense of it. A magical disturbance… buried the bodies…. Was he somehow… involved in this magical disturbance? But no, it couldn’t be--he might be a trickster and a thief, but he wasn’t a murderer. Those bodies hadn’t become bodies because of him, surely. And yet… he couldn’t remember much of the last few days. He’d been in the Shadowlands to see the eclipse… no. That was an odd idea, as there’d hardly be any visible sky through the dense canopy of trees. So, not the Shadowlands. But… why’d he think he was? Where had he been? His body felt off, too. Unnatural and oversized, like when he’d first transformed into a dragon. Over time that feeling had worn away, although he still was much more comfortable in the body of a raven. He hadn’t felt this cumbersome in years. Groaning, he forced his eyes open. Darkness greeted him, but off to one side a light shone. He swivelled his head in that direction, searching for the voices that’d spoken just moments ago. “H-hello?” he called out, wincing at the fear trembling in his voice. He didn’t like to seem afraid, or that he had no control over the situation, but both things definitely applied right now. “I… heard you talking. Who’s there?” “Oh by the gods, one of them’s awake!” someone called, a new voice this time. “Ramedar, Clove, the Imperial’s awake!” He frowned, not sure who they were referring to. Imperial? The only option was... himself, but he definitely wasn’t an Imperial, one of those irritating giants stomping around everywhere. Truth be told, he wasn’t quite sure what breed he belonged to, but he knew what he wasn’t. “...No,” he managed to get out, trying to shake his head, but every movement felt slow, like his wings had gotten tangled up in something sticky. “I’m not….” He lurched upright, trying to stand, but his legs collapsed under him. “Shhhh,” a voice said, calm and soothing, and he turned to see… what was it, a Nocturne? standing close by. “My name’s Tea, and you’ll be okay, alright?” Tea moved closer, raising a paw to gently stroke his neck. “We’ve been waiting and waiting for you to wake up. I’m not sure, but I think you’ve been asleep ever since the eclipse. We arrived a day or two afterwards, but….” The Nocturne’s face clouded over suddenly as he trailed off. “What happened here? Trees were knocked over by some massive wind, there were bodies everywhere--most were dead, although some are only sleeping, like you. When we arrived… well.” His mouth twitched. “I… don’t know what happened,” he murmured back, staring straight ahead into the darkness. “I was going… somewhere, for the eclipse, and then… I don’t know,” he said again, helplessly. “It’s like I jumped straight from wherever I was to here. And my body… it feels so strange. You said, before, “the Imperial’s awake”, but I’m… I’m not that.” Tea continued patting his neck, the physical contact calming him down, making him feel like everything was going to be fine… eventually. “Maybe you weren’t before, but you are now. A full-grown Imperial.” He looked over, nodding to two others that’d just come over. “This is Clove, and that’s Ramedar. The rest of the group is sleeping right now. Ramedar’s quite experienced with magical disasters, she’ll likely be able to put you back to normal. I wouldn’t worry.” Quieter, he said, “The Imp doesn’t know what happened here, but I don’t think he’s what caused this. Just an… unfortunate bystander.” “Fortunate, you mean, that he’s not dead,” the Pearlcatcher said in reply--Ramedar? “There’s hardly any survivors… he’s lucky. The other sleepers should be waking up soon, I think, if he has. Maybe one of them will know more. I’ll study the lingering magic here, but it’s been nearly two weeks since the eclipse, I don’t know how much I’ll be able to get.” His breath caught, “Two… weeks? I’ve been sleeping for… two weeks?” “Yes,” Clove said abruptly. “If the cause of this was on the eclipse, then… yes. Two weeks.” Tea shot her a glare. “What’s your name? I’d like something to call you by other than ‘the Imperial’.” He flinched, as if he could somehow physically get away from that word, that description. “I usually go by Sebastian, when I need to, but you can call me any name you like. Names don’t matter much to me.” “Well, Sebastian, rest easy for tonight. In the morning we can go over what you do remember,” Ramedar said, already walking away. Clove lingered for a moment or two, but then hurried after her. “Forgive them,” Tea said, sighing. “Clove’s not good with sympathies, and Ramedar… well, she only just arrived tonight, so I’m not quite sure about her. But she certainly seems like she knows how to proceed from here, which is a great help.” He looked up at Sebastian, then apparently came to some decision and snuggled up in the crook of his throat where jaw met neck.”I’ll sleep out here with you tonight, if that’s alright?” Sebastian closed his eyes and relaxed, feeling the Nocturne’s warmth. “I don’t mind,” he replied, wiggling a little to make himself comfier. Maybe he was stuck as an Imperial, and maybe he might’ve been involved in some disaster two weeks ago that killed people and put others to sleep, but… but at least he wasn’t alone. Somehow, simply not being alone was enough to put his mind at ease, his fears to rest. And tomorrow he could talk with a magic expert, and maybe she knew a way how to reverse this transformation. He didn’t fall asleep again--he’d had enough sleep to last him for a good long while--but instead let his mind wander, his thoughts drift, until morning. He roused himself, lifting his head to look around. Clove was standing at his side--likely the one who'd woken him--with Ramedar and Tea close by, along with a few other dragons. The rest of the band, he supposed, the ones who he hadn't met yet. All of them looked... well, small, to put it bluntly. It didn't help that most of them were crouched down, clustered together. Then he noticed the trees. Not the broken ones laying on the ground from whatever had brought him to this place--the still-standing ones, across the clearing. They were shaking violently, like a storm wind was approaching... but the sky was clear. A low, soft sound reached him then. "Music?" he whispered, glancing down at the group. "It's... this isn't natural," Ramedar said, brisk despite her obvious nervousness. "I know what magical disasters feel like, I can sense when a catastrophe has recently occurred or will occur soon. But this... I've never felt anything like this." Sebastian's eyes widened. He didn't like the Pearlcatcher much, perhaps, but already he'd come to trust that she knew what she was talking about. And if even she had no clue what was going on.... Were they in serious trouble? A disturbance near the trees caught Sebastian's gaze. Dark shapes fluttered around, darting up above the canopy, diving back down erratically. "What's that?" he muttered, coaxing his limbs forward. Tea swooped up from the ground, eyes narrowing as he watched. "Looks like some sort of fight, maybe? I'm pretty sure those're Talonok--too small for Harpies--but what are they after?" Talonok. Sebastian shivered at the mention of the winged Beastclan. He'd had a few run-ins with them before, in the body of his smaller, better, dragon form; most encounters had been... decent, but there'd been times where he had been lucky to get out unscathed. Still, though. His body was that of an Imperial's, tough and strong and huge, and surely that counted for something. And he was curious. Had these Talonok somehow made the trees shake so violently? Were they the cause of the unearthly music? "Well, let's go check it out," he said finally, relieved that his limbs seemed to be far more controllable than last night. "Tea, you with me?" The Nocturne hesitated, glancing back down at his group, then at the Beastclan fight, but eventually decided to perch on Sebastian's head. It took only a few minutes to reach the trees, and Sebastian cautiously made his way in, lamenting the loss of his slenderness and agility as he pushed through the undergrowth. The higher branches were whipped into a frenzy, lashing out every whichway, but underneath that chaos, nothing seemed odd or out of place. "Talonok!" he called out, scanning the gloom. "Did you cause this?" Heartbeats passed by, full of silence. Tea hunkered down a little more, digging into Sebastian's mane. "Talonok!" he tried again. "I saw your group above the tree line; I know you're somewhere in here! We just want to stop whatever these weird stuff is that's happening, I promise!" Eventually a shape fluttered out of the darkness, ghostly white. But... it wasn't a Talonok. Tea shifted position, leaning down to whisper "Fae" in Sebastian's ear. A dragon, then... the Talonoks' quarry, perhaps? Before Sebastian could speak, the little Fae darted over, wings flapping frantically, and shot onto the Imperial's head. The music picked up then, getting louder and louder--and more and more chaotic. Sebastian tilted his head, carefully, hoping to get an angle to see his second rider. "Who are you? Do you know what's going on?" The Fae hissed, "We need to get out of here. Now." Her paws tugged uselessly at his mane, as if he could be guided. Sebastian bristled, giving up on trying to see her--she sounded feminine, anyways. "Tell me what's going on first." "Oh, I can do that for you, Imperial," a voice seethed, and Sebastian once again felt a ripple of annoyance at being called what he wasn't. A single Talonok flew towards him, gripping daggers in their claws. "She's what made the trees move. She's upset our young and the Corven, with this... magic she has," they spat. "And so soon after the night of the eclipse, too." "Nothing would've happened if you hadn't started chasing me!" the Fae retorted, pulling harder at a lock of mane. "Your warriors were threatening to kill me!" "We protect our own," the Talonok snarled, lifting up a dagger. "We do what we must to survive, against you foul creatures." "Enough!" Tea broke in, slamming a paw down. Sebastian winced--did both of them really have to treat him so? "I understand your concerns, Talonok, but I'm sure this Fae meant no harm to you or your people. As for me and my friend, we only wanted to investigate the strange occurrence here. We will go in peace." "See that you do," they answered, glaring. "The little dragon may have been lucky enough to escape once, but she will not do so again. We will not show mercy to one whose magic disturbs our way of life." The Talonok swept back in the direction they'd come, calling out to their brethren. Sebastian huffed a sigh, edging backwards until he could easily turn around and return to the clearing. The music had quieted down, back to the soft tune he'd heard earlier, and the trees seemed to be calmer. The group gathered around him immediately, pestering the Fae with questions. "Leave her be," Tea commanded, but she protested, flying down into the group. "It's alright--I'll answer your questions and then be on my way. I was only passing through the area," she explained. "My name is Naomi, and yes, I was the one that affected the trees and made the music. Odd things often happen around me--I call them 'anomalies', and they get worse if, say, a group of Talonok wants me dead. But once I leave, things should go back to normal." She smiled, turning to Sebastian. "Thank you for saving me. I'll remember your help today." Tea called over a Nocturne, who flew off moments later to the small building that was the group's sleeping quarters. "I'll give you a gift, to keep you well-fed on your travels," he said, offering a hastily-wrapped parcel to her. She took it, turning it over in her hands. "Thank you!" she said, surprised. "I don't have far to go, but... this is nice. Thanks." She beat her wings, hard, soaring up into the sky. Sebastian watched her go, blowing a gentle stream of air her way to aid her ascent. As promised, the trees had entirely stilled. Sebastian mulled the experience over, wondering what about her made such anomalies... what magic caused them. He was sure Ramedar was probably thinking the same thing, probably wanting to analyze it all. Maybe they'd meet up again, some day--although hopefully under better circumstances.
