* Not much is known about how the first elves looked. Nowadays, the elven dragons display several variants, adapting to their environments in a hard-willed attempt to survive. The elven dragons usually lives in small clans, tribes, in which they keep out of the sight of dragons and beastclans alike. The variants, and many tribes within these, know of each other's existence, but due to their isolation they rarely meet. Elven dragons are never diplomats or negotiators, and they're rarely merchants either; they take on occupations to ensure the survival of the tribe, and preferably never leaves its borders. Instead, elven dragons find themselves in three major sects of occupation; Those connected to nature, such as hunters, caretakers, and foragers. Those connected to crafts become architects, jewelers, herbalists; and finally, those that are strongly connected to the magic of the elves, who use their abilities in the tribe's best interest, making wards or becoming scholars. The primal energies of the elves have survived along the people, and are still protected by them. But now, the energies are no longer bound in the earth, as their homeland saw destruction. Rather, the energies reside in the dragons themselves, an inheritance of their elven ancestors. The elven dragons honor this by building shrines and worshiping their original people, and the primal energies are still vital to their survival. * The elven dragons, while still dragons, share many traits with their ancestors. Most elven dragons have taken shape as Imperials, their slender, tall bodies and long ears as close to their original shape as can be. But as years have gone by, elves have begun to take shape outside the Imperial breed. They have found their peace in shapes of Skydancers and Wildclaws too, their elegance and primal force an extension of the might of Imperials - and even among these other breeds does the elven traits tend to shine though. Their coloration changes within each variant, but elves are known for their pale and fair skin and scales. Just like their ancestors, elven dragons display shimmering bodies, and hair that glistens and gleams. The elves were said to have a particular fondness of gleaming gems, or light metalwork and the creation of jewelry; and now, as dragons, this filigreed beauty has become part of them. Their personality is equally inherited from the ancestors. The elven dragons are a proud people above all, and they have a habit of looking down upon other races or dragonkin, especially those who does not share their keen sense of beauty and aesthetic. This, and their inborn distrust of strangers, leave them little love for outsiders - although, it is not impossible to find them among other dragon clans. But the elves are always loyal to their people first, and even living among others, their hearts reside with others of their kin. They love anything decorative and beautiful, especially if it fits their filigree. They prefer to keep shrines close to them, and build reminders of their own attunement to their primal magic - as well as their elven ancestors. Apparel Elves work on two principles when dressing themselves; - It must be simple - There must be contrast, often light, flowy silks contrasted by hard gems Elves love light cloth such as silks or dresses. They adorn these with gems and jewelry, but never in a way that'd be considered over-the-top. Elves prefer to appear light and unburdened. Each variant usually have different favorites of apparel, changing to fit the occupations inside the differing tribes.

This is a place for me to write the lore of a subspecies that I'm currently working on, called elves. The idea is that these dragons are the descendants or the souls of a long-dead elven race, and that they've inherited physical and habitual traits of these beings. These dragons are elegant, proud and secluded, and they often have elongated ears and fine features.

The subspecies comes in different variants. Since this is my first time creating a subspecies I love all and any feedback or ideas! Just shoot it at me, whether it's about the lore, the items or familiars, or the look of the dragons themselves~

The Fall and Rebirth of the Elves

There are tales of a mythical and magical race of humanoids, thriving in the times before dragons. The elves were known as tall and fair, with an eye for beauty and will to protect and nurture their homes from those who would destroy it. Their powerful magic were drawn from nature, from the primal energies of the land. It was part of their soul, their essence, and they were as equally their magic as they were flesh and bone.

But this magic put fear in other races, and it became the slow decline of the fair people. On the very brink of their own extinction, they sealed their fate, to save themselves and the remains of their primal energies. How they came to do this, scholars have yet to figure out. Some say the elves tore their souls from their bodies, to be reborn in a stronger, better form. Some say they foresaw the future of dragonkin, and ascended to these beings, hiding in the protection of their magic when all other life was extinguished.

Whatever the case, the elves and their traditions live on, although no longer in their original shape. The elven dragons have for many years stayed hidden, the memories of their people's death at the hand of outsiders still tearing at their hearts. They are, and have always been, a secluded people, both fearful and suspicions of dragonkin and beastclan alike. They might find their way into new clans, and new lives. Eye Lore

Goat

Goat eyes are an oddity within elf tribes. These elves are known to be in touch with nature and the elements of their variant. They are graced with a wide range of talents that helps them cultivate and understand their environments. However, their dwellings in these talents means that Goat eyed elves are beastly in nature, and in some individuals, this wild side dominates the usual civil ways of the elves. Goat eyed elves are frowned upon in most tribes, except the Wood elves, where their talents are praised. It is usual for Goat eyed elves to become solitary, and seek a lone life within the wild, where they cannot be condemned.

Some elves become wanderers, seeking a truth to the troubles and chaos inside them; several ends up lost.

Uncommon - Rare

Uncommon, Unusual or Rare eyes are a sign of strong magic capability or special talent, and are valued greatly within elf tribes. Dark Sclera occurs very rarely in elven dragons, and they're usually believed to be little more than tales to scare the hatchlings. However, Dark Sclera eyes are quite real, and elven scholars believe them to be dragons inhabited by evil or ill-meaning souls. These elven dragons are known to foster magic of a darker nature, with no relation to their inherited primal abilities, making them both powerful and terrible.

Familiars, items, apparel

Familiars

- Are never Beastclan, as elves don't trust these. Anything slightly humanoid is easily distrusted

- Likewise, festival familiars, who are aligned to a certain deity, are rare familiars within elven tribes

- Favored familiars are usually chosen by looks, anything considered beautiful or elegant will do

- However, favored familiars change within each variant

Items

Elven dragons favor jewelry, cut gems and shiny metals. They love anything decorative and beautiful, especially if it fits their filigree. They prefer to keep shrines close to them, and build reminders of their own attunement to their primal magic - as well as their elven ancestors.

Apparel

Elves work on two principles when dressing themselves;

- It must be simple

- There must be contrast, often light, flowy silks contrasted by hard gems

Elves love light cloth such as silks or dresses. They adorn these with gems and jewelry, but never in a way that'd be considered over-the-top. Elves prefer to appear light and unburdened. Each variant usually have different favorites of apparel, changing to fit the occupations inside the differing tribes.

The Light elves are the fairest of all elves, their appearance gleaming and glimmering, shining like the light of the brightest days. The variant is associated with dawn, and their wings are known to portray the last of stars giving way to a rising sun. They are collectors of knowledge, of scrolls and books, and their will to gather leads them far and wide, with no true place to call home. From time to time they meet tribes of other variants, but they never stay long. Their ethereal bodies help them appear and disappear on will, escaping those would who ruin them. Starlight elves are both revered and pitied by the other variants, who consider them closest to their ancestors, but also those most troubled by the transformation from elf to dragon. Not much is known about the whereabouts or life of these elves. They are only seen on very clear nights, small tribes with only two or three members. Only when they become alone do Starlight elves seek out the company of either elves or dragons, seemingly afraid to spent their existence on their own. Yet this has happened very rarely in the past, leading many to wonder if the Elves of the Stars even exists - or if they have become extinct altogether.
