This is a major WIP and it'll probably remain a constant WIP. Feel free to comment and leave advice or even just a kind note whatever you'd like ^^ I dunno if anyone would be interested in getting pinged but if you would let me know and I can start a ping list! All of the art featured will be linked directly to the artist so you can just click on the image to view them. I'm always looking to commission art (whether it's drawings, lil short stories, or whatever else you can think of) If you want to do art for any of my dragons pm or ping me! Also, I'm looking for some allies for my clan, whether they're within fire or not! pm or ping me and we can work something out! (I think it would be cool to trade ambassador dragons so that they each have a spokesperson from the other clan so def talk to me if you're interested!) There were whispers all around about what they would name their new child, or whether it was a boy or a girl, although the royal couple appeared convinced that they had produced a boy. When the egg first showed signs of hatching, the city was called, this was to be an event celebrated by everyone. Crowds of people waited impatiently, some pushing others to the side in order to get a view, a few even shifting to their dragon forms and flying into the air in order to watch it happen. When the egg finally did hatch, the shock on everyone's face was very visible when they saw a baby girl come out of the shell. The royal couple, of course, hid their surprise and acted as if they were always expecting a girl. The queen made rage-filled eye contact with their seer, who had foreseen a boy, and he knew exactly what that meant: exile. "If that seer is not gone by sundown then I'll kill him myself," she growled to her mate before stepping up to her daughter and bending over to pick her up. She was a beautiful dragon, wildclaw like her father, with soft red fur. She held her close, looking to her husband pridefully. She imagined how she would look in her human form, thin and elegant, just like her mother. She knew she would be beautiful. "We will name her Tecla," she said, nodding to their priest. "City of Burning Wings, your princess, Tecla!" he shouted, motioning towards the queen and her daughter. This is where the story of The Ashen Nomads begins. As she grew up, she didn't quite live up to her mother's expectations. She was talland thin, as her mother had expected. Her skin was tanned from all of the time she spent playing outside with her Magma Embear, getting into all kinds of trouble with her parents and nannies. She much preferred training with the warriors than learning table manners. Eventually, her parents had told all of the troops that they were not allowed to interact with Tecla unless it was for her own safety. "But Mama I like fighting with the warriors!" Tecla was struggling to keep up as her mother walked briskly through the castle. "Princesses don't fight with the warriors. Now come on, it's time for your bath." The queen didn't slow her pace at all as she walked towards the bathroom, a few servants trailing behind her. This was her life. She lived in an unwanted luxury when she would’ve much rather spent her time fighting or even learning magic (even though she didn’t like magic). The life as a princess wasn’t meant for her. She didn’t like the look of a mix of fear, admiration, and envy that she would see in everyone’s eyes. This was one of the reasons she chose to spend a lot of time as a dragon. It was much harder to recognize her without her fiery red hair splayed across her just as fiery eyes. She didn’t have to worry about whether there was a stain on her dress when she got too clumsy drinking tea, she could just be a dragon. Of course, this displeased her parents as well. The dragon form was a representation of the barbarity of the common folk, noblemen did not spend their time as dragons. The sky was a fiery orange as the sun was setting and the whole city had gathered to witness the hatching of the first royal child, the heir to the throne.
There were whispers all around about what they would name their new child, or whether it was a boy or a girl, although the royal couple appeared convinced that they had produced a boy.

Did she really want to leave this life of luxury just so she could spend her time swinging swords? She thought of the dragons who had been exiled by her parents and shuddered, did they live? The thought crossed her mind that she may die outside of the city. She didn’t even know what was out there. Despite these thoughts, she had decided that it was time to leave. Her parents were about to throw a huge party once she hit adulthood, and she knew that she was to be wed at that party. Her parents never told her, but it was customary for every daughter of her family to be wed at this sort of event. She wanted to be gone before she was married. Tonight is the night she decided, gathering what she deemed worthy of taking. Adan watched patiently, he knew what she was doing and he was prepared to stay by her side. Tecla smiled at her friend, they both would walk into the Great Furnace for each other and she felt comfort in knowing that he would be with her on this journey. Once she gathered some items, which ended up being just some gemstones and ore that she could trade for food if she needed, she snuck downstairs into the kitchen. It was late at night but she knew that there were often servants still doing dishes into the early hours of the morning. She peaked into the store room and grabbed as much food as she could fit into her sack before sneaking to the exit of the castle. She had mastered walking silently as a child because she would get sent to her room so often for misbehaving and she would sneak around the castle without her parents catching her. Once she reached the gate of the castle, a guard stopped her, “Where are you headed, princess?” he asked, blocking her path. “Let me go,” she hissed. “Sorry miss, can’t do that.” He replied, not budging. Tecla puffed her chest out and masked her voice in the haughty outrage that she was all too familiar of hearing her mother use, “You dare deny my passage through my own gate! Do you remember that I am your princess, sir? I should have you exiled for this,” Fear flashed across the man’s eyes and Tecla knew she had succeeded. His dragon form was a fae and she knew that they rarely survived on their own outside of the castle. “My apologies, your highness, go right ahead,” he said, stepping aside and deeply bowing as she passed. Tecla felt a surge of pride as she walked through before she felt an icy chill grip her heart. That man will probably be exiled by her mother for letting her pass. How many more people will be sent to their deaths by my family? she thought to herself before realizing that she may be sending herself to death. She shook her head to clear her thoughts before travelling on. Pulling her hood over her face to not be seen by the rest of the city. She hoped that less witnesses would mean less exiles. Tecla reached the edge of the city, marked by a sign. She looked to Adan, “Are you ready?” she asked softly. The bear nodded his head and nudged her hand. She smiled and continued on, each step more assured than the last. Fear flashed across the man’s eyes and Tecla knew she had succeeded.

Dear Mom and Papa,
I hope you haven’t worried too much about me. I am doing well. In fact, I am thriving. Have you ever been outside the walls? It is quite a marvelous thing. I want to thank you for my diplomacy lessons because they have served me well. Although not in the manner you imagined, I’m sure. Don’t bother asking the messenger about me, because I’ll be gone from his city before you receive this letter.
Do not worry about me. I am much happier where I am and I hope that you can accept that. Maybe one day I will return to the castle for a visit, although I don’t expect to be welcomed. Adan and I have been watching out for each other and I am confident in our joined abilities to survive.
I don’t expect a letter in return but if you wish to send one I will return to the city that I sent this letter from. I don’t know when I will return so don’t bother trying to send someone to retrieve me. Expect to hear from me again.
Best,
Tecla, Princess of Burning Wings No one

She knew that this was dangerous because it will be dark soon but she couldn’t risk her parents finding her. Tecla trekked on into the night, her fiery eyes glowing slightly. She kept watching for the light of even a fire, and signs of other dragons. Soon she grew weary, and she could tell Adan was as well. She squinted into the darkness and sighed, “I guess we’ll have to set up camp here,” she said, kneeling to the ground to set down her pack. She pulled out a blanket that she had stolen from the last inn that she stayed in and sat on it. Adan laid down next to her, resting his head on his paws. Tecla shifted to her dragon form in case they got attacked and laid down, falling asleep almost as soon as she laid her head down. Tecla woke to Adan moving. Once she gained full consciousness she heard a growl, as well as several sets of hooves hitting the ground lightly. She looked to where Adan was looking to see a group of longnecks, all with their weapons drawn. They motioned to her pack, causing her to clutch it closer. Tecla stood up, still holding her pack, “I don’t want any trouble,” she said slowly, “We’re just travelers,” She took one step back, clicking her big claw to signal Adan to do the same. At this movement, one of the longnecks launched himself forward, sword ready to strike. Tecla yelped as the sword slashed her shoulder. In shock, Tecla dropped her pack and the longneck snatched it before jumping back, avoiding the slash of her claws. The longneck that grabbed her bag started running away, followed by the rest of his group. Tecla shouted in frustration before looking towards her intended path, “We should move on,” she grumbled to Adan. The sun was just beginning to rise and Tecla felt the pain of hunger in her belly. She was far too clumsy and loud to hunt, her claws always clicked on the ground and she always managed to step on a twig. She ignored her belly pain and continued along her trek. A few hours later, she happened across a lone bogsneak. She approached slowly to the male. “Hello?” she called, visibly startling the bogsneak. “O-oh, hello there.” He acted nonchalant, returning back to his activities, barely looking at her. It looked like he was.. Digging? “What are you doing?” Tecla asked, walking forward. “Digging, of course.” The bogsneak snorted, “Do you need something?” Tecla snorted, outraged at the way he was treating her. She felt a shoulder nudge her side and she sighed, shooting Adan a look. “I was ambushed by a group of longnecks and I was wondering if you knew where I could find a place to stay.” “Well I suppose you may be able to join the group I travel with…” he looked up at her, actually seeing her for the first time, “But what value are you to us?” Tecla’s feathers flattened against her skull, she wasn’t used to people questioning her worth. “I.. uh... I’m a member of the royal family of the City of Burning Wings.” “And..?” The bogsneak sighed, “We will talk to the council, come with me.” Tecla relaxed slightly, “Oh, thank you!” she said, fully approaching the bogsneak now. He had orange scales and a solid white stripe down his side. The bogsneak left whatever he was doing and headed off, Tecla and Adan trailing behind him.

As they approached she counted at least twenty tents. She stared in awe, “You’re.. Travellers?” She asked, looking around at all of the different dragons. The bogsneak chuckled, “You truly are a member of the royal family?” he asked sarcastically, “What’s your name by the way?” he asked. “I’m Tecla,” she said, his sarcasm evading her, “And yes, I am the princess from where I came from,” she said. “I’m Emilio. I grew up travelling with my mother, we joined up with this group a few years ago because it’s getting more and more dangerous to travel alone. Tecla noticed that these dragons didn’t all have the orange eyes she was used to. Emilio did, but she saw many dragons that didn’t. Tecla gasped, speeding up to walk next to Emilio, “Did you know that some of these dragons are.. Fade-touched?” She whispered, seeing the dark purple eyes that she had always been warned about. Emilio snorted out a laugh, “No princess, that is determined by where they’re born. What, were there only fire dragons in your city?” “Yes... We had a few merchants from other regions but they weren’t to be trusted.” Emilio laughed, “Well, you’ll get a kick out of the council then.” He approached a female bogsneak, similar in coloration to himself, “Mother, this dragon would like to speak to the council about joining us.” The bogsneak looked at Tecla and gave her a warm smile, “The council will see you.” Tecla nodded, “Thank you!” She said, ducking into the tent after the bogsneak. “What is your purpose in joining us?” One snapper spoke, his booming voice making Tecla flinch. “I don’t have anywhere to go and I don’t think it’s safe to continue on my own. My magma embear and I were ambushed in our sleep by longnecks and they stole my supplies.” There were about ten dragons in the tent. Tecla noticed that none of them had the same colored eyes, and all of them were looking at her. “What are your skills?” Another dragon asked, his glowing yellow eyes looking from her to Adan to the rest of the council. “I.. I have extensive training in diplomacy as well as a small amount of training in fighting learned from the soldiers in my city. I am also heir to the throne of the City of Burning Wings and, once my parents step down, I will have access to many resources that I think you and your clan will find useful.” Several of the dragon’s eyes widened at the mention of her throne and there were quiet whispers between them. The female bogsneak that they talked to earlier spoke up, “Please leave the tent for a moment, child. We need to discuss what you’ve told us. We’ll send someone out to get you soon.” Tecla nodded and ducked out of the tent. The seemingly hive mind sent chills down her spine and she wondered if she really was safer here. Minutes later Emilio walked outside and nodded to Tecla, “They’re ready to talk to you again.” he said and she followed him back into the tent. Tecla looked around the tent, fear gripping her heart.
