Clan of the Broken Bone Tower
Lore Masterpost

This will mostly be an attempt to keep everything lore-wise organised but to also be a useful reference for everyone my dragons interact with on a regular basis. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to post here!

The Name:

Under Megatronus, the clan was named Mother's Maw, a dedication and supplication to the goddess. You were either a fang used in the promotion of the agendas of the Scarred Wasteland or you were left to the mercy of the goddess, alone and stripped of all weapons.

One of the first things Ikol did after throwing down Megatronus was strip the clan of it's name. Looking up at the broken tower inspired the imperial, they would rise from the ashes and take responsibility for what they had once been.

The History:

Originally founded by the Warlord Megatronus and his cohorts who ruled with an iron fist, he ordered only the most beautiful and profitable to breed while all others were to carve out the surrounding battlefields for profit. Those who fell behind were left behind and those who could not contribute to the clan were cast out to the wastes to be picked up or die at the whim of the goddess. The true tragedy of all this was that Megatronus had not originally been a tyrant, only wanting to protect his small clan however over time the ways of battle, the marketplace and other clans turned him into the ruthless creature he is now.

For many years those of the clan suffered under the guardian’s growing madness, pairs came and were cast out, hatchlings sold for the most meager profit and dragons forced to learn to fight before being sacrificed to the goddess. This was the way of things until one dragon finally was pushed too far.

Ikol was a teller of tales, beautiful and with many hatchlings that had fallen to Megatronus’ ways. Unlike other breeders, the imperial never used their offspring for political maneuvering and cared for each and every egg. No one is quite sure what pushed them over the edge, to finally take a stand, but one day the clan was like it always was and the next it was not. The tower shook with power and magic as the two dragons fought, a rare storm breaking out above the plaguelands and casting all into stark relief as lightning ripped open the sky. Many of the clan hid in the hollows of the tower as the two giants clashed, the oldest members of them gathering the others close in the safety of the lower levels, while a few of the brave clung to the windows and watched a tyrant fall. As dawn broke Megatronus was deposed, wandering the lowest levels of the tower in dark contemplation as Ikol emerged victorious.

While most were in favour of the change in leadership, some were not and quietly left the clan. The upheaval caused many changes, for a time the clan could not even fill the entirety of their tower, smaller and broken as it was from the coup. Eventually though the rooms filled with new faces, the halls with the laughter of children. A weight was lifted from the clan as they took a new direction. No longer were they a profit driven clan, now they were a place of refuge, rare in the plaguelands. All who needed a home, lost in life and on the road were welcome if they could find the way.

Perhaps because the clan had been ruled by a creature that was not quite a dragon, a spirit from a far off metal world and then taken over by a potential minor godling from a higher dimension, many who find their way to the clan are not just dragons. Metal behemoths from a planet called Cybertron, strange creatures from distant Alternia, even the greatest heroes from a place called Earth. These strange appearances, though welcome, gained the clan the nickname the Crossroad’s Lair in days past.

The Now:

Often times now Ikol can be found wandering the markets of far off lands, looking for those who need a place of safety or have somehow ended up in Sornieth. It is not uncommon for the great imperial to be gone for weeks at a time only to suddenly return with a new clanmate of mysterious origins.

Not to say that the Clan of the Broken Tower is particularly safe but better to have the monster at your side than against you, no?

The Scarred Wasteland- The Wyrmwound: Ancient Plague lairs live closer than most would think plaguelings would be able to stand, in fact closer than even dragons of other flights can tolerate. They take residence in the towering fang-like structures that sprout around the very edge of the Wyrmwound rim. These forms take centuries to grow to any significant height and longer still to house a clan of notable size. Some groups are wise and keep their numbers small so that they can refrain from having to live too close to the pit of bubbling rot at the center of the Scarred Wasteland. You can never judge perfectly the age of a clan by where they dwell, though closer to the center of the plaguelands generally means older. Because the towers grow haphazardly with no consideration for dragon territory or grudge, the ancient clans have learned to be tolerant of close proximity with other clans. Fledgling dragons often glide from one tower to its neighbour as they learn to fly, carefully watched by tense dragons from both clans, ensuring nothing untoward occurs. The towers grow so thick and close together that some parts of the Wyrmwound are completely inaccessible except by air, the bone roots pressing against each other so tightly not even a Fae could fly between them. These areas of dense population are lovingly nicknamed the Bone Forest.

The Tavern, also known as the Rickety Crown Inn, is set apart from the remains of the old Tower and is considered the true heart of the clan. Here is where travelers come and go, where new members can find work and where veteran members can kick back and relax with their friends. It is considered neutral ground and it's no stranger to meetings between enemies who need a place of somewhat security for their dealings. The fires are always lit and the band ever playing, the mead forever flowing and there's always a place scrounge up for a weary traveler to sleep. Cause no trouble and this will be your haven from the dangers of the outside world, be it from the plaguelands or beyond. [columns] [Nextcol] - Appolymi runs the Tavern and can always be found behind the counter cleaning mugs or talking animatedly to the patrons.
