It is my duty, after all,” Adrian said as he started to clear away the table. “Oh, would you mind waiting a moment? There's something you need to see,” Adrian continued as he set the plates down in the kitchen. “You sound more serious than usual, what's up?” Faron asked with a scowl as he followed the butler into the kitchen. “It's this… I was tasked with giving it to the shapeshifter in the early hours of the morning. I read the contents to the creature, as requested, but…” Adrian trailed off as he pulled the letter out from his pocket and handed it to Faron. Faron took the letter and squinted at the contents. “Gods, this is nearly illegible,” he muttered as he started to read the letter. After several quiet moments, Faron had looked up from the paper with a worried look. “You said he gave this to you to deliver in the middle of the night?” “Yes, he looked like he hadn't slept at all, absolutely disheveled and wracked with guilt,” Adrian said, and Faron swore. The wildclaw shook his head and sighed. “I’m assuming you realize the gravity of what's written in this letter?” Adrian nodded, and Faron continued to speak. “As soon as he wakes up, I'm talking to him about this,” And with that, Faron left the kitchen, and went back to his room to try and prepare himself for what he was about to do. He decided that he would be better off changing into something more comfortable than his armor. He didn't want to be intimidating, nor did he foresee himself having the energy to train after his talk. Faron debated bringing a book along to read while he waited, but decided against it. He wasn't sure if he could focus on that right now, and more importantly he needed to figure out just how he was going to approach the conversation with Corvo. Eventually he headed back downstairs, and waited outside Corvo’s door. It was still somewhat early, so Faron was prepared to wait and let him sleep a little bit longer. After a few hours had passed, he took a deep breath and knocked on the door. He heard a very muffled “go away!” from inside the room. “I'm not going away until you open this door!” Faron said, and began knocking repeatedly on the door. This kept up for several minutes before the door finally opened. Corvo glared at Faron, but didn't say anything. “We need to talk, in private,” Faron said in a forceful way that said “there's no way you're getting out of this”. “Fine, whatever,” Corvo huffed as he closed the door and stepped out into the hallway. “Why don't we go to the living room?” Faron suggested, this time much less demanding. Corvo just shrugged in reply. Faron frowned but didn't say anything as they walked to the living room together. Corvo begrudgingly sat down and crossed his arms as Faron sat down opposite of him in a chair. “Adrian showed me the letter you wrote last night. Quite frankly, I'm concerned for you,” Faron said seriously as Corvo turned away from his gaze. “I'm fine, Faron,” Corvo huffed unconvincingly as he avoided making eye contact with the knight. Faron shook his head and sighed. “You said you were going to throw away all of your alchemy equipment! That your drive to understand how things work is gone! You are most certainly not fine!” Faron practically yelled, and Corvo flinched. Faron cleared his throat in embarrassment. “...I’ve ruined everyone's life, I don't deserve to live,” Corvo said so quietly that Faron could hardly hear him. Faron frowned. “Corvo…” he trailed off, unsure of what to say. “You don't have to say anything, I’m the root of all your problems, and we both know that…” Corvo muttered, and Faron looked away. “I ruined your life, Faron, we both know that … Mari would be healthy if it wasn't for me, the shapeshifter would be normal…” Corvo said in an unusually subdued manner. Faron looked back over at Corvo and noticed that he had started to cry. “Mari loves you more than anything else, despite what happened,” Faron said, and Corvo started to cry harder. “I don't deserve her!” Corvo screamed through his tears, and Faron frowned. “She can hardly get out of bed because I made her so sick!” Corvo said, his face was twisted in a pained expression. “You didn't have a choice, and you risked everything to save her! You absolutely do deserve your daughter!” Faron said, and Corvo just kept bawling. After a moment of silence broken only by Corvo's bawling, Faron cleared his throat. “The creation of the shapeshifter wasn't your fault either, you were trying to save Marilyn, and no one can fault you for that. You tried your best to destroy it,” Faron said gently, and Corvo shook his head. “But you hate me, and I can't blame you after all I've done!” he cried. “Like it or not, you can't change the past, as painful as it can be. But… If I'm honest with you, even after learning of the truth of what happened in the Kingdom; I was still desperate to pin the blame on someone, and I took that out on you. That is truly inexcusable, especially after realizing that you aren't the mad and selfish dragon I had you pegged out to be,” Faron said solemnly, and Corvo bit his quivering lip. Corvo looked up at Faron with a furrowed brow. “I’m...confused…” Corvo muttered, and Faron shook his head. “I forgive you, for all that you've done,” Faron said solemnly, and Corvo erupted into tears once more. “Faron, you can't be serious?!” the bogsneak said, absolutely astonished. Faron nodded with a smile. “We all know I’m a terrible liar, after all. Now… I hope you know that I won't let you throw away what brings you joy,” Faron said gently as he offered to help Corvo up from the couch. How is it?” Benji asked excitedly as he watched Adrian take a sip of tea. “For your first time brewing tea, it is fine,” Adrian said, gently setting the cup down on the saucer. Benji frowned and drooped over. “You don't like it, do you?” He asked, sounding almost as disappointed as he looked. “You didn't seep it long enough, and it is cold,” Adrian said bluntly. Benji looked even more upset than he did previously. “Did you think my first cup of tea was brewed perfectly?” Adrian asked as he looked his son in the eyes. Benji looked scared and nodded with tearful eyes. “No, my first cup was worse than yours was! I have had… a lot of time to perfect my tea brewing,” he said, sounding vaguely sad. Benji sat down beside his dad and anxiously squirmed around. “You look like you have something on your mind,” Adrian commented after a moment. “Sometimes I think about being different than anyone else here, and I get sad. How do you feel about being a monster too?” Benji squeaked. Adrian scowled and looked down at his wedding ring. “I loathe it, quite frankly. Unfortunately we are unable to change reality, and so we must accept it for what it is,” Benji looked down in thought for a moment, before looking up at Adrian. “But I don't understand! If Faron and Corvo got over their problems with each other a few weeks ago, is that not changing reality?” The skydancer asked with confusion. “It is, but I was referring to the reality that you and I are unable to change the fact that we are monsters,” Adrian huffed, and Benji frowned. “Could we learn to be okay with what we are?” Benji asked, and Adrian narrowed his eyes. “Perhaps you can! I cannot bear the reality that I am cursed to watch everyone around me die, and that I cannot join them!” Adrian snapped as he abruptly stood up to leave the room, and Benji started to cry. “I'm sorry!” Benji said repeatedly through his tears. Adrian huffed and started to leave the room, before stopping in the doorway. What was he doing, taking out his anger on his son like that? He turned back around and crouched beside Benji. “...Taking out several hundred years of my anger and frustrations on you was abhorrent of me. I truly am sorry for that display,” he said as he took out a handkerchief and wiped the tears away from his son's face. Benji looked up at his father with big eyes. “D-Does that mean you're going to leave me too?” he quivered. Adrian frowned. “Absolutely not! I knew I would outlive you when I took you in, and I have no intentions of going back on my word. If it makes you feel better…” he paused before taking off his locket and put it in Benji’s hand. “That is a locket. It contains a picture of Lenore and I inside. It was my most cherished belonging, but I wish for you to have it now. Keep it with you and know that you are never alone,” Adrian said with an uncharacteristic warmth in his voice, and Benji started to cry again. “Why are you crying now?” Adrian asked, sounding both grumpy and concerned. Benji crawled into his dad's lap and wrapped his arms around him. “They're happy tears!” [sub]

What of it?” The shapeshifter asked with narrowed eyes. “I was wondering if you'd be kind enough to answer a few questions for me,” Faron said politely as he sat down in a nearby chair. “Fine,” it said, and Faron cleared his throat. “So, tell me, do you have a name?” he asked, and the shapeshifter twisted it's face into a scowl. “I don't remember anything prior to the experiments,” it said in a depressed manner. Faron closed his eyes for a moment, presumably in thought. “Well, we can't just keep you without a name, do you have anything in mind?” Faron asked gently. “I'm stuck looking like him... I have no “self”, and even if I did, no one would look at me and see anything but Adrian,” the shapeshifter trailed off with a bitter smile on his face. Faron frowned, but didn't say anything in reply. “You don't have to answer that, we both know it's the truth. I think a similar name would be appropriate for a shadow like me, wouldn't you agree? Perhaps…“Anthony” would be a fitting name,” the shapeshifter said after a brief pause. “If you want to be called that, then I have no problem with it. Now then, Anthony, if you don't remember anything prior to the experiments, why are you so desperate to regain a life you know nothing about?” Faron asked, and Anthony sneered. “It was the only thing that I had to cling to! I know I had to be normal! I have to be normal again!” Anthony said hysterically as he started to thrash about, his shouts were drowned out by the rattling and clanging of the chains. “Anthony!” Faron cried out over the din, but Anthony kept thrashing about and screaming, seemingly ignoring Faron. “H-Hey, calm down!” Faron yelled, but just like last time, he was ignored. Faron huffed and abruptly stood up from his chair. The screaming was getting even louder and more hysterical, and he'd had enough. “You don't have to be normal! No one here is!” Faron snapped and stormed off out of the room, and Anthony briefly stopped screaming to blink in confusion with his jaw slacked. Faron made sure that the door was locked before he walked off. “Gods, you almost have to feel sorry for Anthony, but at the same time, he used everyone! He used... me,” Faron thought as he went outside to practice his swordsmanship. It would be better to take out his anger and frustrations on a log than on anyone else. After a few hours, Faron went back inside. He was exhausted both mentally and physically. “Thank the Gods,” he muttered as he walked passed Anthony’s room and didn't hear any screaming. Faron was glad that he wouldn't have to bust out the earplugs to sleep, and it didn't take him long to fall into a deep slumber.
