Clan Foundation: Date Unknown
.....Before the Clan was originally founded, the great God Thanatos and his brother Hypnos were hated by their peers, the lesser Gods. Jealous of their power and status, there had been many attempts on both of their lives, but they had managed to fend them off. In an attempt to keep themselves safe, the two brothers would often separate, sometimes parting ways for centuries or more. Because Thanatos was the God of Death, and Hypnos the God of Sleep, Thanatos assumed that if he was away from his brother it would make him less of a target, because he thought it would trick their pursuers into believing they were not close. It was mutually agreed that they would be alone during these travels. At least, it was, until one of their meetings where Hypnos was with the company of another dragon. She was a female, named Nyx, and claimed to be in love with her.
.....Of course, this did not go over well with Thanatos. After all, who could love the unlovable? The two brothers were tasked with causing the deaths of mortals and Gods alike. They had no time for love, and it was supposed to be an unknown concept for them. However, Hypnos continued to proclaim his love for the strange Goddess, and as he and Nyx grew closer, Hypnos and Thanatos grew farther apart. Eventually, Thanatos broke off from his brother almost completely, beginning an unusual extended state of separation. Thanatos continued to do his work, bringing death stoically. Eventually, even he could not stave off the crushing feeling of loneliness, and returned to his brother to seek out the companionship they once had.
.....When he returned, he was greeted with the sight of Nyx laying next to Hypnos's body. Her desperate wails and cries filled the air for miles around, like the sound of a hundred ghosts crying out at once. It was as if she was trying to call his soul back by pure will, and she pawed desperately at his corpse as she did. It took all of Thanatos's strength to pull Nyx away from his brother's body. As devastated and confused as he was, he knew one thing: he must protect the Goddess who gave his brother her love.
.....Only with his death did Thanatos realize his brother had been right all along. Somehow, he had achieved the impossible and found someone to love him. Unfortunately, that love hadn't been enough to protect Hypnos from death. Thanatos, assuming he would have been able to protect his brother if he had been there, vowed not only to avenge him, but also to keep his mate safe. With Hypnos dead, it was likely that either he or Nyx were the next targets, and now Thanatos had to keep them both safe, somehow. Through this action, Thanatos unwillingly set off the chain of events that would lead to the formation of the Nightmares of the Revenant.

Apollo: Enemy of the Clan
.....The main enemy of the flourishing Clan is the God of the sun, Apollo. Apollo is the dragon who killed Hypnos, wanting Thanatos to suffer before Apollo eventually killed him. He was able to see through Thanatos's attempt to separate himself from his brother, and realized that no matter how far apart they became, Hypnos's death may be Thanatos's undoing. This was not some random act of violence, however; there was method to Apollo's madness. At one point in his life, he did not know much about the two brothers, content to live his life in the sun and ignore that which did not concern him. However, this all changed when Apollo's mate, Coronis, began an affair with a different mortal male dragon.
.....Apollo loved his mate with all of his heart, but it wasn't enough for Coronis, who was fickle and capricious. Deciding he wasn't spending enough time with her, Coronis began an affair with a mortal male dragon who was completely infatuated with her. It didn't take long for Apollo to find out about the affair, however, and he was enraged. Deciding that if she could not be loyal to him, she could not be loyal to anyone, Apollo followed her under the cover of darkness to her lover's lair. There he found them courting, and a vicious battle ensued. The suitor was no match for a God of his strength...and neither was Coronis.
.....Once the suitor was killed, Apollo viciously turned on her. As he attacked her, Coronis begged for him to stop, but her pleas fell on deaf ears, as he was totally engrossed in the act of attacking, and therefore killing, the dragon. His actions did not go unnoticed. Thanatos, who had caught wind of the dying soul, appeared in the lair as Coronis was on the brink of death. Totally sworn to his duty, and seemingly oblivious that her attacker was Apollo, Thanatos used his power to take what was left of her soul and leave, therefore killing the dragon before Apollo had the chance.
.....After that, the two became sworn enemies on account of Apollo. He hated Thanatos both for killing his mate, and denying Apollo the right to do so himself. Unsure of which burned worse inside of him, he swore to hunt Thanatos to the heavens if need be. Unaware of this hatred, Thanatos went on with his life, which would turn out to be a great mistake.
