Usually, nothing is waiting for you here but foul wind and even worse darkness. But exactly 6 nights ago, something showed itself. Waiting for you at the end of your typical nightmare was a beast unlike any other. What appeared to be the remains of a Ridgeback towered over you. It was barely anything more than a shadow, a twisted husk of flesh, scorched tree roots, fabric, and bone. Its breath was cold, yet seared your scales, sending shivers down your spine and causing your hackles to perk as if you were in grave danger. And you were.
"Spread. The. Affliction..." It spoke. Its voice did not ring in your ears, it rang in your mind. Ageless, genderless, fearless, its words seared the inside of your skull and rattled your very bones. You cower as its words echo throughout the clearing.

This is a bit of a passion project of mine, as Lichwood, your big bad alpha Lich, is one of my favorite dragons ever and has the most extensive lore I've ever written for any character of mine, much less a dragon. You may choose not to adhere to the lore, but it is pretty darned cool, is it not?
[b]Lich Dragons[/b] are new subspecies I am introducing with this hatchery. Imbued with traces of the shade, as some Arcane scientists have been able to deduce, Lich dragons are terrifying forces of destruction and mayhem, spawned from the angry corpse of Lichwood and spread to other populations as a plague.
[size=4][b]Subspecies Lorestuffs:[/b][/size]

[*][color=666666]Lichwood is the original Lich and children birthed directly from him are considered his princes, princesses and similar royalty. You may work this in as you please!
[*][color=666666]Lichwood is a "true" Lich. This means he has a phylactery: an object in the world that his soul is directly tied to and stored within. Lichwood cannot be killed by [i]ANY[/i] means to him or his body as long as his phylactery is intact. Secondary Lich, Lich born from Lichwood and other Lich dragons, do NOT have phylacteries, and operate more like true zombies than anything else.
[*][color=666666]While secondary Lich do not have phylacteries from birth/creation, they can obtain one over time. The older a Lich becomes, the weaker their soul's hold on their original body becomes, and the greater the need to charge a phylactery. This is done simply: when a Lich "perishes" of old age, unable to control their own body, their souls leave their husks and search for a nearby phylactery. Often, objects a Lich has intensely bonded with will draw in the soul on their own. Guardian dragons have no problem finding phylacteries, as their Charges usually serve as the perfect choice. Living creatures can not be phylacteries, as the souls within will reject weak Lich souls.
[*][color=666666]The Lich affliction spreads through bites and/or death from a Lich. These Lich can give birth to more Lich, who can bite more dragons, who can make more Lich, etc. Typical zombie pathogen rules apply but with creatures that can mate.
[*][color=666666]Lich children are not without caring qualities. Lich children can bond with parental figures, infected or otherwise, which will essentially spare them from the Affliction or any harm to their person. Lich protect their phylacteries and parents fiercely.
[*][color=666666]Lich cannot perish by traditional means. Strikes to vital organs and most ranged weaponry will have little to no effect on Lich dragons. Most zombie rules apply except for beheading - Lich can operate without a head and without most limbs. Think Dead Space's necromorphs: dismember to survive. Fire is also effective. Though using fire attacks will not stop Lich from regenerating, if you can burn the entire body to ashes, they cannot rise again.
