Be thankful, even during the trials."[/color][/font][/size][/i] This sentiment has always meant a lot to me. It's something that I've told myself ever since I was a child, but I've found myself saying it more and more now that I'm an adult. I'm generally a very positive person. Growing up, I was a victim of childhood sexual abuse, I helped my mom get through her three failed marriages, and I suffered from a chronic inability to make friends. I was generally very happy though and spent most of my time reading, being outside (generally climbing trees and catching weird animals), immersing myself in schoolwork, and doing theatre. I moved away for college and went to school to be a paleontologist. My life since I left home has brought me a grab-bag of emotions. I've made some wonderful friends and had some amazing experiences. I've also had a series of bad relationships ranging from just a**butts to borderline abusive (my girlfriend would make me delete the word "borderline" if she read this). I've gotten pregnant (unintentionally), had a miscarriage, and been told that I probably won't be able to have kids again. I've worked multiple jobs to pay for an education that half the time I couldn't even succeed at because of the depression brought on from the previously mentioned issues. I've had to deal with my mom and sister (my only blood family) having serious medical issues and then been disowned by my mom multiple times for "not caring enough." But every time I would get seriously depressed, that quote is one of the things I would try to remind myself everyday. All the bad stuff aside, I'm happy with where I am and who I have become, and I wouldn't trade it for something "easier." This is especially true now. I am currently in a relationship with two people (polyamorous triad) that is beyond wonderful and I'm grateful and thankful everyday that I'm so happy and loved. They have a 2-year-old son that is my whole world, and even though it's hard sometimes, it is so so worth it. Every once in awhile, I actually explain this sentiment to my girlfriend and boyfriend because my most recent (and probably worst) ex is still trying to make my life difficult even though it's been almost a year and a half since I left him, and every once in awhile I want to wish I'd never met him, but if I hadn't had to put up with all the hell I had to deal with when I was with him, I wouldn't be with the wonderful family I have now. It's a confusing feeling, wanting to thank your abusive ex for being a terrible human being, but it's true in my case. I picked Honey because she gives me one more way to remember everyday to never get resentful for the things that have happened. Every experience - bad and good - has made me who I am today and has brought me to a place where I finally feel complete. I hope that some of my dragons might resonate with other people the way she does with me.
