Examples
Brooke was born outside of a clan. She was born with the name Echo. She lived in a frozen tundra. Life was hard in the tundra. While her parents did everything they could to collect food it was never enough. On the days that they had no food her parents would tell her stories so she wouldn't think about the hunger she was feeling. They would tell her stories of how they traveled the world and the times they stumbled upon clans of different lands, which always raised questions about the many clans Echo had only heard stories of. Echo's parents would describe the clans however they always would warn her to stay away. They told her that the clans were dangerous. She wasn't allowed to leave their den alone since they lived very close to a clan in what she was told they called the Frigid Flows. One day Echo's parents came home once again empty handed. They could not find even a single insect. That night she couldn't help overhear their worried conversation about how food was even more scarce than usual. That's when she decided she would go and collect food by herself. She waited until her parents were asleep then snuck out of the den into the cold dark night. She searched for what felt like hours but came up with nothing. With her head hung low she began to follow a brook to head back home. At least towards where she thought home was. In reality she was heading straight towards the clan in the Frigid Flows. Suddenly a snow bank broke from underneath her. The screeched as she was plunged into the icy water and pulled by the surprisingly strong current. Out of nowhere a grey dragon about her age with beautiful blue wings jumped in and attempted to pull her out. Another dragon fished both of them out. From that day on Echo lived with the clan. She was given the name Brooke after where they found her. She and the blue winged dragon, Shatterwing, became best friends which later on developed into something more. On the days that her clan can not bring in enough food she tells her hatchlings stories of her life before being in the clan of the Frigid Flows.

Skadi, born in the Tsunami Flats, was very unlike her ocean dwelling clan mates. As a water dragon, it was expected of her to begin swimming as a young hatchling and grow into a strong fish catching hunter. Skadi, however, could not swim. Skadi attempted to hide her inability for fear of not being accepted. This did not last long. When Skadi was the young age of three days old her parents decided it was time for her to move up from the small shallow tidal pools to the nearby Fishspine Reef. Skadi stepped into the reef, refusing to go any deeper despite her mother's orders. Angered by her daughter's denial she shoved her deeper into the water. With a yelp of fear Skadi began to frantically kicl and splash in an unsuccessful attempt to swim. She began to sink as she kicked wildly at the water, willing herself to return to the surface. She gasped for a breath of air, sucking in water. As she began to run out of both oxygen and energy she felt a tug suddenly she resurfaced. She gasped for breath while she coughed up the swallowed water. When she finally regained her senses she looked up to see her mother staring at her with a face of pure dissapointment and disgust. That was a face Skadi would never forget. Days went by of hard training from her mother and father. Each session brought little success and along with it, the memory of her mother's face. She was determined to learn how to swim but no matter how hard she tried she could never do it. One day in the dead of winter an announcement was made. The clan that had already been devoid of food was now at the point they would have to make adjustments. Starting that day everyone would have to participate in hunting, which meant you had to swim. That was the day Skadi was driven out of her clan. Skadi stood on the outskirts of their territory with both of her parents. She knew what was coming but she didn't want to believe it was really happening. She was too yoing to attend meetings but she had overheard their leader. She knew she was no use to her clan and was only an extra mouth to feed. She looked up pleadingly at her mother who stared back down at her with no remorse and gave her a shove. When she stepped back towards her she was shoved again, this time hard enough to knock her over. When she got back up her parents had disappeared. Skadi stumbled through the night. It began to quickly get noticeably darker as she got deeper into a forest. The only thing that provided light was the glowing blue fungi. She spent several days wandering these woods, growing hungrier by the hour. She was raised in a fish hunting clan and hadn't even seen the animals of the forest, let alone learned how to hunt them. Eventually she collapsed onto the forest floor exhausted and starving. Her vision faded to black as she fell unconscious. Skadi was soon found and taken back to a clan that resides in Wispwillow Grove. That is where she lives to this day. She never shared her past, hoping to move on from it, but being the outsider she had nothing to worry about. No one wanted to speak to her and she was given the job no one else wanted; the apprentice of the clan's law keeper. The hatred from her new clan mates and haunting of her past began to harden her. Although she was a very strong hunter she eventually moved up a rank to become the hated law keeper. She is feared by all for her brutal honesty and cold punishments. She will not hesitate to punish even the youngest of dragons and will do so in many forms such as being forced to go hungry, temporary or permanent banishment, and even on a few occasions execution. Despite her dreadful personality she did find a mate in Hades who shares much in common with her.

Hades is one of the most feared dragons of the entire shadow region. His enemies quiver at the mere thought of him while even his clan mates put in an effort to stay out of his way. He seems to like it that way, finding it easier to not have to speak to other dragons. Hades is a strong hunter and worthy opponent in battle. He has seen many battles and drawn even more blood. He uses a mixture of strength and stealth when he fights. He will come out of nowhere full force then just as quickly disappear from sight before coming back a second time but even stronger. It takes the most skillful fighters to match his skills. The only dragon that does not fear him is Skadi, his mate, who shares his dark humour and fearful aura. Skadi and him both share very similar personalities. Neither care much for talking and find the usual small talk quite pointless. Instead they spend their time together in silence, seeming to speak without words. Something that sets Hades and his mate apart is the fact that his job has some effect on him. Skadi, as the law keeper has ordered several banishments and executions with seemingly no regret. Hades, on the other hand, is the dragon in charge of guiding spirits into the afterlife. While he tries to hide it, each time he leads another spirit he feels more fatigued and depressed than before. Hearing the stories of the recent dead and reliving their final moments on a regular basis takes it's toll on Hades. He hides this weakness from everyone except Skadi who he often confides with. Skadi, not understanding, was unfortunately not much help. Despite this Hades continues to share his troubles and Skadi listens. Do not be fooled by this somewhat softer side of Hades. While he is more open and seemingly caring around Skadi he is still a dragon to be feared. He will not hesitate to kill in battle and will out match most. You will see him by Skadi's side most of the time and feel tje dark presence as you pass by. He is not a dragon you want to make enemies with.
