Of a traveling clan, no one knows when and where Vesper came in contact with the Shade. It was only when his eyes darkened to a complete black and his eyesight faded did people truly notice, and it was far too late by then.
What saved Vesper from death was his innate magic, gifted by an Earth-born father and a Shadow-born mother. Shadow was perhaps the flight that held the strongest despise and fear for the Shade the most, for the dragons of Shadow knew darkness and its ways. Earth magic was what kept Vesper's body sturdy as Shadow and Shade battled within him unknowingly, the dragons of Earth known for longevity and steady mind.
Still, the Shade was still a force too great for the magic of a young hatchling. Though it was eventually conquered and expelled from his body, Vesper's sight did not return.
Thankfully for him, Skydancers are able to navigate the world through their antenna and the gem imitations atop their head. Even if Vesper cannot even distinguish light and dark, it is not wise to challenge this dragon, whose knowledge and control over the common flow of mana can only be matched by few.
Despite his disability, Vesper has a bold personality, sometimes mistaken for being over confident or cocky. Well-spoken and with knowledge of many languages and cultures due to his travelling roots, Vesper is occasionally brought along to representative meetings when tensions are going to be high. As Skydancers are known for, he can diffuse the most heated arguments with just words and a sense of the magic in the air.
Vesper has never - and probably will never - have plans to "settle down", to start a family or clan of his own. But, an unexpected friendship with a free spirited Imperial and adopting three little troublemakers have changed his life for good, he thinks.
Even if he's the one who looks after them the most while their adoptive co-parent is off being whatever they want to be, he thinks that having someone to come back to is a pretty pleasant experience.
