Dragonhome | Chaotic Good | Delvers

The Pursuit Primordial is a group of recently-established warrior delvers who enter catacombs, digsites, and tunnels before the scholars attempt to research there in order to clear out any restless corpses.

The guild was formerly a group of artifact thieves, but they were the first–and only–team to survive an encounter with the massive skeletal wyrm in the cairnstone rest. Velya, master archeologian of the Dragonhome Preservation Guild, pulled the unwilling group out of their life of crime and into one of service.

» Origins «

Below the dry scrubland of dragonhome slumber bones, old as the world, trapped within stone. Sometimes, on dark days, when leylines shift in unpredictable ways, the bones shake, riot against the rocky restraints that have pinned them down for a millennium, and the dirt beneath the feat of the dragons above shifts with the unrest.

in an ancient burial ground, careful claws and not-so-careful pickaxes mine away at gems and inter the dead. Sometimes, when rock is scraped away, the bones of the world can breathe again, and a taste of freedom turns so quickly to a ravenous hunger.

The first collapse in the Cairnstone Rest was a shame, but bad luck. The second team of miners to go missing made the flight wary. The third loss of contact gave the intense feeling of danger.

Here came the dragons who would become the Pursuit Primordial--freelance grave robbers to-be-turned protectors and preservationists--as armed as an illegal spelunking team poised to flee at any moment can be. It is in the cairnstone rest they find the bones, rattling and lumbering through the caverns shafts and crypts. Hired to steal from one of the earth flights most honored dead, instead finding the shambling mummified bones wandering the dark. It was this moment, this encounter, that revealed the light of permanent rest for the restless corpses.

The mercenaries fled, turned to the Dragonhome Preservation Guild in a panic, risking arrest and incarceration at the price of warning the frequent delvers of the real dangers that await them. These were the first dragons to return from any encounter with the dead.

» Present Day «

Master archeologian Velya, head of the Preservation Guild, made the decision to establish the thieves as a recognized archaeological guild, seeing the physical, tactical, and magical prowess they must have possessed to make it out of the tunnels alive when no other dragon had. All the accolades and backing of an official guild, as long as the group puts their black market artifact dealings behind them--which they do...for the most part.

The Pursuit Primordial now acts as a first strike team on any archaeological dig, even those not suspected to be affected by the leylines. They are in close contact with the Highland Sanctum, and have an ear on the Crystal Court. The Pursuers are clever, careful, and curious--and they will be the ones to find the true cause of reanimated fossils beneath Dragonhome.

By all accounts, the group is led by a dragon called Alecto: a ridgeback as sharp in attitude as she is in claws. Alecto rose from a grunt to the boss when the group was still known as the Purveyors Primordial, establishing many of the connections the group has to the Crystal Court. However, despite her clever mind and fierce spirit, Alecto is not to be entirely credited with the Pursuit's survival nor its change in direction.

That blame falls to Presage--an obelisk awoken from the Dustcarve Dig who, under Velya's direct suggestion, once worked as a bookkeeper for the Dragonhome Preservation Guild. In the midst of delve teams going missing, killed far beneath the earth, Presage joined the Purveyors Primordial, and when the towering skeletal wyrm loomed above them--all that remained of some ancestor fighting the grip of death--the air around Presage erupted in blinding light, engulfing the bones and leaving them shimmering solid stone.
