I started this challenge myself in August 2015...
Let that sink in. It's been over 2 years and I am still not finished.

I currently have Scorched Forest and Boreal Wood left. I've never tracked number of familiars of stuff because that's a huge pain. For Scorched Forest, I have farmed there for 97 days (between 4 and 8 hours a day).
Actually taking a break from it now until they revamp the place because at the moment, the chance of getting an egg there is super low.

1000 - Is it possible to level up a level 18 dragon (whom I've already leveled up from 16 only in this venue) to level 25 using only the Boreal Wood? Would I still be sane? Probably not.
1228 - My progen's at level 20! (the one I'm trying to level only here, but I did accidentally give it 41 battles worth of exp from ghostlight ruins, whoops)
1950 - I just gotta get to level 22, then I'll be done.
2000 - I have reached level 22 with this dragon! I'm going to sleep as it's almost 1 am and I have a lot of homework to do tomorrow.
2210 - That feeling when you defeat a yeti and it drops nothing. rng please. I'm begging you.
2437 - Level 23! 2 levels before I hit level cap, but it'll take me at least 1500 more battles to get there
