Every now and then I'm reminded that my tastes in genes/apparel/colours aren't universal and everytime I'm shocked. What do you MEAN people are different from me??? What do you MEAN my opinions aren't the objective truth????

Anyone else have those moments, or is this yet another case of what do you MEAN my thoughts aren't shared by everyone???

Haha yeah, sometimes I'll see a dragon that clearly a lot of money and time went into, and the owner will be gushing over it and I'm happy that they like that dragon and that it brings them joy. But dear god it looks ugly to me. Of course I would never actually say that, but its just kinda funny to me to be reminded that my tastes are far from universal.

Oh yeah, every time I go into the "pretty random scries" thread I am wildly reminded of this fact. They're all SO ugly god bless.

I've had it happen so many times, and I'm sure it happened with my dragons as well. As long as the person the dragon belongs to likes it/is happy, that's all that matters really.

I totally get that! I was actually thinking of making a post similar to this, cause I know a lot of my dragons... are probably incredibly strange to others. I really love dragons that other may find weird! Colors that should not work together? I love them! I love looking at the AH and buying fodder dragons because I just fall in love with them. But to anyone else, they'd be just fodder. Here's a few as an example! Atrocity, Anathema, Disgrace, and Disaster! I saw them and grabbed them, and had to grab all four because they were siblings and I'm just like that... to anyone else, their names probably very accurate, but to me, beautiful little babies. @CandyGhostCC Ooh I like Anathema! She's actually quite matchy. I have given them all a like anyway just because :) Tbf I've seen much worse in the random scries. And you can rescue almost anything with the right genes, accent, apparel etc.

I'm terrible at rescuing fodder which looks pretty to me, especially if it has rare colours - people are so conservative with breeding on the colour wheel that almost any XYZ is rare - and I have also occasionally rescued whole sibling clutches because it just seemed mean to keep one and exalt the rest X3

This is why I will never have any space in my lair, lmao. But I do take a perverse kind of pride/pleasure in going for dragons which most other players would yeet in a heartbeat, haha. I feel like I'm the one UNstocking the pond!

This happens to me all the time when people post "ugly" scries or dragons. Like what. Do I have bad taste?? Lol. I'm a person who loves Crackle, Thylacine, and Lionfish, and I do like a good Smirch from time to time. And apparently some of my favourite colour schemes are rather unpopular. But who cares. It's kind of funny when I think more about my reaction after that knee-jerk "what is wrong with you?? what is wrong with ME??" and being like. well yeah. It's an opinion! A preference! Goofy grub! Plus it's kinda funny when my friend and I trade pics of dragons we hatched or scried and one of us is like "OMG [emoji=everlux love size=1]" and the other is like "what a wretched being... so unfortunate, I'm sorry you had to see that..." LOL Even when it's something I absolutely cannot stand to lay eyes on, I'll still try my best to give a truthful compliment if I'm talking to that person. Because they clearly put effort into it, or adore it, and I'm not going to make them feel like they're wrong for that. Everyone enjoys knowing that someone saw their dragon and appreciated the choices that went into its design!

I am mostly aware that dragons I find pretty won't be pretty to others so whenever I see thread about "share me your pretty dragons!" and I am like uuhHHhhh because some that I find pretty and pleasing to eyes are odd (some of mine are "generic pretty" IMO but some are "wait what lol". I have variety)

I def seen dragons that I find so horryfying ugly and/or just plain boring to me but to others spark joy. I love to see that difference. it sparks joy when dragon I kicked out for being ugly is joy to someone else it is kinda why I prefer to state "pretty to ME", I feel awkward saying "this dragon so pretty" (feels like overal statement) and others will be "u ok. is totally UGLYyyy" (yes I overthink it) XDDD

this happens so often when someone is like "I hatched this uggo, can they be saved?" and I'm like, that's such a nice vibrant XYZ! love the contrasting tert! perfect pop of color! etc. it's me, the guy with weird taste in colors

Happens sooooo often. Especially when a new gene comes out and people start posting about how "this new tert just saved my g1! It's PERFECT for them!!!" with the other people on the thread also gushing over it, and meanwhile I'm just sitting there like, "...." But hey, we all think we have the One True Best Taste in Dragons, and who am I to judge someone else's One True Best Taste in Dragons? Me, a crackle lover? I cannot. It would make me a hypocrite.

I still have many of my old dragons from 2015 that still have all the same genes and are kinda lowkey ugly. But I love them anyway.
