i write bio lore...sleepily

serious answer is that i keep it to one summary paragraph per dragon :) makes it more manageable as a comprehensive project

I start with vibes and general character/story ideas. My bio format is sorta simple:

1. General description of the dragon's personality and what they do

2. More detailed history/stories about said dragon

3. Art/headcannons/memes/whatever other details I want to keep

I keep items for both aesthetic and lore purposes in there too. For example, all my event g1s have the item code for whatever item they hatched from. It's just a small detail I like to put in.

i mostly have random scribbling that's probably just copy/pasted from me telling someone else about it based off Vibes or Cool Ideas i had. or someone asks me a specific question and then i have an idea and scribble about it. or i interpret gameplay into lore. or there's an event that has a roleplay/writing element and suddenly i have a lot of lore/characterization that i came up with while writing my posts that week. sometimes i refine all of this into a neat-looking and well-written bio. mostly i don't.

if completely out of ideas i actually just pay other writers to have an idea for me tbh. toss my dragon and everything i know about said dragon at them and go "what's he do".

agreeing with Dullanyan that figuring out how they connect to other characters is sooo good for figuring out lore. my scribbles evolve over time as more characters become relevant to guys i already have a concept for.

I use the "clean" template by wanderlustfaun and then just write a paragraph or two about the dragon. a lot of my dragons are pretty much one-offs, but if they do intertwine with one another i'll mention that as well. and i also give them a theme song :-) For example

I just put a paragraph or two of character description, basically. I keep it simple. More complex inter-dragon stuff can go elsewhere, like in a lore thread

(although my lore thread is mostly just even smaller summaries because my lore is boring on purpose)

I have a template I use for my dragons. Here's an example. It's designed to be short so it doesn't take me forever to fill it out.

Contains the following:
  • Banner that links to the overarching lore
  • Short story/description
  • Trivia (things related to their lore)
  • Logbook (plans for the dragons, out of lore facts)
  • Five other dragons from the same world. It's my "read more" section. Can also be used to showcase dragons important/related to them.

Asa side note the text is coloured to match their element.

with sentence fragments and blurbs, mostly.

I feel like a lot of my lore would be considered "just a lore stub" to other players but to me it is complete. except the ones that aren't complete. you know how it is.

a couple examples of dragons with short but complete lore: Mockery, Orienne

even when I do end up writing longer lore, it's more summary-style instead of a full story with dialogue and such. Soup and Scydin are examples of that.

flop around like a fish on the dirt until I figure it out.

Ok but really, I have all of my drafts in google docs and I ONLY put them on the site when they're ready. Except for Valekan, but we don't talk about them (feedback purposes). In the google doc, I just throw words on the page until it feels Right and then go from there. It's almost entirely Vibes based.

So what that usually ends up with are entries that vary wildly in style from dragon to dragon. Random musings, diary entries, campfire tales, archived letters, etc etc. I also include a lot of relationships between the dragons in each entry. From judgy gossip to the reason why they choose to carry on.

I do think about their goals, values, upbringing and mental state, especially since those things will dictate the style of the entry. Luce is a shadow dragon and grew up there most of her life, so obviously that influences the way she narrates her story. Whereas Bovine is almost* an empty shell of who he was. So his entries are distant, impersonal, and unclear.

I don't have any length requirements. Luce's entries in total are a whopping 1,600 words. Thread has four. My process is slow, but I find I am much happier with the end result.

Generally speaking, do whatever fits. Bullet points are great, narratives too, just do whatever fits you.

I frame it as an interview that touches on their lore, covering things like clan role, connections to family, and any drama they're involved in.

I also link any other dragons mentioned in their bio so it's easier to click around and piece together the lore bits that connect :)
