Also, I'd use wish 5000x more often if it didn't block out so much of the face - it makes it extremely hard to work with unless the primary is the exact same or very very similar color imo

I am of opinion that there is no impossible gene.
I don't use some genes at all, but It doesn't mean they can't look good.

That is actually kinda neat part about Keel for me X) You can interpret It as you want (same with koi! You can make it look like a moss, scales, clouds and so on..). Not all genes have that flexability.
Also..I like Smoke. But I like it more in lighter colors. Here is Artu for example:

Wish is workable. I've made a scry for a contest that looks quite good in my opinion:

But so far I've come to a coclusion that Wish should be lighter than primary and secondary. So far I have not seen dragon that looks good for me with dark colored Wish.

I'm the one wackadoo who loves wish i just can never make it work sobs. i looove weird genes, i have dragons with polka dot and filigree and mosaic. imo there's no gene that NEVER works, just some that work more than others.
my least favorite is riot tho.

Iri/shim... may be a bit of an odd choice but I can't personally get behind how they look. They just really aren't my thing, same with met/all

I feel I’ve managed to make some less popular genes work, but I just cannot seem to make batty work at all. The fact that the wings are largely one solid color and don’t really have any sort of shading/color gradient makes them seem to flat to me.
Crackle can actually look pretty nice when coupled with a cold-toned dragon:

EDIT: I saw someone say smoke was a difficult gene for them and I gotta say I'm in agreement with the other smoke enjoyers in here it's definitely situational but light patterning against a dark background is what really helps this gene shine, like I scried it onto Artemis here and it was immediate love
