- mosaic/breakup obliterate the details of a dragon and I can't stand them. I think I probably hate them more than any other gene. doesn't help they debuted with gaolers, my least favorite ancient. I am curious if anyone has a dragon with it that they like it on.

I'm a big breakup defender because of the unique color accents. (Mosaic too in theory, although I tend to prefer "busier" genes to be on wings rather than body.) I always check mosaic/breakup when a dragon is giving me scry trouble. 90% of the time the color accents aren't to my liking, but that remaining 10% can absolutely save a dragon.
My favorite breakup dragon:

I also really like it on obbie manes, although I don't have any of those presently (scry: obsidian/eldritch/pink)

Ok I can definitely appreciate these. especially a big fan of that second one. I do feel like it's gotta be used in small doses on the wings though haha

I can't say there are any genes that I absolutely can't see any use for, but it's been difficult for me to find good uses of Flutter and Monarch in particular.

Regarding forum games, please only select dragons who have familiars - those are the permanent residents of my lair. Feel free to look through the hibernal den, too
I love the idea of wish but I've tried so hard and I just... I can't find a use for it that looks good..

I generally struggle to respect keel as a viable gene option, but I think about this scry I made for someone's g1 every now and then.... for some reason it blew me away.

I also don't like most uses of mosaic/breakup, that being said I do have this baby with mosaic I adore

It probably helps that the hatchling pose's wings kind of cover much of the dragon's body, so the pattern only becomes really visible on the tail and part of the shoulder

Wish works best on simple light or dark backgrounds.

Oh the fest reminded me another one that I was pretty disappointed with and have had difficulty finding one I liked was Riot. It's a very low coverage nearly non-linebreaking gene that was just... unimpressive. Not a fan of the armpit spikes.
HOWEVER. I do think I like these new versions of it a lot better than the original executions. They feel more balanced and more... weighty? if that makes sense. That there's more too them. It's not a lot different but I think it's just enough that I kinda like it at least at first glance. I'll have to play around with it on my dusties and veils.

There are a few for me, but I'd never completely write a gene off as 'impossible' because you never know a breed might release that it looks outstanding on, or your might find that one dragon that rocks it.
That being said, a lot of the busier genes (Mosaic, Lionfish etc and their matching secondaries) I find hard to work with.
Same as sadly, the majority of the fest genes :( nothing wrong with them, they're just so super niche that it's hard to make work unless its a perfect look for a dragon.

Crystal and Facet are just plain ugly to me. They look far too busy, and I hate the texture implications they provide. What do you mean the dragon is now one big hunk of rock? How does that work? It looks bad and just feels wrong.
Metallic and Alloy have also earned my distaste for similar reasons as above, but to a lesser extent.
