TOPIC | Sandsurges are Gem Genes (Are you mad?)
This is goes from fact that people complain about "too expensive dragon" About everything above 10 g!
Remember aethers drops to fodder lvl price literally within few weeks and people still complain they keeper too expensive for too long.
I mean hey! Gene scrolls do not become cheaper in time (expect of some coli) how they suppose genes dragons will uppears if those who scroll and breed them didn't price them comparabls with scrolls prices?

For those people saying that staff didn't communicate it would be a gem breed: what would be the best form of communication for you? Honest question, because I recall seeing it at least twice in developer updates, several times in the "We are livestreaming the process of the new ancient" discussion posts, and at least once on the sidebar, not to mention all the times it got mentioned in the discussions forum by players. I grant that they could have added "and we will not be giving out scrolls or eggs for this event", which they will probably be adding for any future ancients. But as far as developer communication goes, they gave out the news on the two most common places they give out news and in the discussions forum for the livestreams.

I grant that it's frustrating to not be able to access new content (though I can confirm that when veils dropped the t:g ratio was 1:1200 and rising, so it's gotten blessedly easier!). And I don't mind people being sad/frustrated about it; I've been there! But it seems unfair to blame the staff for making business decisions (and being very transparent about it), or other players who did choose to save up.

While it's valid to feel disappointed that there aren't free eggs/breed change scrolls for the new breed, some of the critical comments honestly makes me uncomfortable - especially the ones throwing around heavier terms that really have no place in this specific situation.

No one has to get the new breed on day 1 and they eventually become pretty accessible as prices of hatchies drop to fodder prices in a few months or so. Also, as someone who has played various f2p games (that aren't necessarily pet sites), FR's monetisation is pretty f2p-friendly by far. Gems aren't account locked and can be earned through gameplay and pretty much everything relevant (including gem mp items) is also tradable between players. The devs also went way beyond what any other dev would've done in communication so I'm honestly not sure where the sentiment of 'not enough communication' came from.

Instead of getting all heated over dragon pixels in the comments because you can't afford it yet, why not enjoy the new breed through the scrying workshop in the meantime?

People be out here acting like they can't get the breed at all without paying real money for it. Like if you're a casual player you might not have the resources to get it the very seccond it comes out. But you can still get it easily rather quickly through AH. So just... be patient or play more so you have more of those resources if you want these things earlier. This is not a paywall whatsoever. Also FRs premium currency is easier to acquire through gameplay than literally any othet game's premium currency.

Anyways the FR team did a real good job with these dergs and it probably sucks for them that half the comments about them are people complaining about not getting freebies or calling it a cashgrab or accuse them of paywalling.

Not mad, just disappointed in the people being mad lol

it seems like some crazy stuff has been going on this thread but the amount of backlash the new breed is getting is genuinely baffling to me!!! like it's been quite a few years since veilspuns (last gem breed) released and i don't remember this level of backlash. especially considering that 1kg is pretty cheap compared to how much modern gem breed changes or even any modern gem genes are. i definitely understand being disappointed at the cost of the new breed or that we didn't get any freebies, but i've seen so many people taking it out on the developers which is definitely not the move!! also making money as f2p is definitely not impossible- i've been able to make most of money just casually using baldwin, maxing out g&g, and grinding during festivals lol

Seems to me a lot of people are talking about accessibility when obtainability would better describe the issue they're having. Something that's hard to obtain isn't necessarily also inaccessible, and accessible isn't necessarily easy to obtain. Of course premium currency items will be harder to obtain to those who can't use real money, but equating that to a fundamental accessibility problem is like calling having to pay for a coffee inaccessible instead of considering can everyone enter the cafe to purchase a coffee.

I'm extremely casual player these days due to life - like I won't even feed my dragons because I can't keep up with reaccumulating the spent food points, but I feel like if I wanted to get a Sandsurge, I could. It would take time, sure, to do it through gathering and selling of items I get through low-effort tasks, but I think it's a fair trade that if I have little time to spend the results come slowly. The time needed doesn't feel like too much either because FR is very generous with ways you can obtain gems, and the economy is in good enough state that I can get a reasonable t:g exchange rate even if I skip buying gems directly from other players.

Dunno, I just can't see FR as predatory in the least because the way it works is so super kind to the mere minutes I can spend on it in a week.

Like, the idea that there's a lack of transparency? They literally livestreamed the design process. How much more communication and behind-the-scenes access does a person need? Undel only said about a hundred times that the Lightning Ancient was a gem breed. I'm not saying you had to watch all of the livestreams, but throughout all the hype for the Lightning Ancient, you guys are telling me not a single other player you've interacted with clued you in? Not once did you check the front page/site status sidebar and see the news? [emoji=coatl confused size=1] The only fair criticism I've seen is that it wasn't clear to everyone that we wouldn't be getting freebie scrolls/eggs. I wasn't sure what to expect because we've only ever had one other gem Ancient. Now there's a precedent and we know for sure. Live and learn.

There was literally an entire thread made by staff way before release explaining that this was going to be a gem breed and so much discussion about it in advance that if people still didn’t realize, sorry but it’s not that staff didn’t communicate it’s that you just didn’t pay attention.
