Uh-oh, looks like this questioning guardian wandered a little too far from their home lair (452562, Hyzenthlaay), and now they’re off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, we'd really appreciate it if you could just return them to their original home via the Crossroads, the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread here, or this rest hub, if you don’t want another traveler in return from the thread. You can also adopt them permanently if you don’t want them leaving your lair - just contact hyzenthlaay and let her know (it’s good for her notes)! Many people have worked very hard on this traveling dragon, and exalting them would be an absolute shame. Please don’t do it. Somerset is the daughter of two acclaimed religious figures, Something and Somewhat, who have made it their divine duty to spread their religion across Sornieth in the form of their children. Raised to be a missionary of the Redempest religion since her hatching, Somerset never felt connected to the faith that her parents brought her into the world to preach. It's a strange thing, to credit one's birth to a religion you yourself hold no stock in. When it came her time to travel Sornieth to speak the good word of Redempestism like her siblings before her, she shocked her parents by announcing instead that she would be seeking out all of Sornieth's religious truths to stack them against their own. She argued that only then could her faith be strong (leaving out, of course, that she never felt it to begin with). The still occasionally send her letters on her travels, but they've been coming in thinner and thinner with each one. Originally written by @Hyzenthlaay, lore shop here. Well, I doubt I'll be forgetting the looks on my parents' faces anytime soon. I wouldn't have anyway, even if I didn't just commit sacrilege - they never take off those face scarves, even during Breakwomb. Only when their children are leaving, I suppose. And I sure was a waste of such a break in protocol!
Ah, well. I'm tired of being so hard on myself. It's time to find answers - and more questions, probably - in Sornieth. Strangeflesh, Corrosionius wrote:
I fell asleep somewhere in my journey–no, not asleep, I was hibernating. I was rotting. The body of a dragon can’t die of natural causes, so I didn’t starve, but my mind decayed to a flicker of hatred for my parents and their religion. They thought that they could control me through “redemption”, to turn forgiveness into a knife, a knife that presses into the parts that make me who I am and calls it healing. But soon, even that faded. I couldn’t even remember their faces.
After months, years, decades, I couldn’t tell I awoke to the sound of a nearby tree collapsing, as a sudden thumping and flapping of wings echoed. A robotic looking tundra and a mutant nocturne appeared, staring at me. “Who are you?” The nocturne said. “I’m…I’m…Somerset.” My head throbbed and my body ached with years of pain. “I’ve heard of your family, your parents are the founders of that messed-up religion in Dragonhome right?” Bellu said. “I’m not like them! I yelled. ‘Oh, well, that's too bad, because you're going to be judged by their actions whether you're like them or not. That's just the way it is.” Bellu said. “But I’m glad you aren't like them. I’m Bellu, and this is my husband A.K.” “How long have you been in that hole?” A.k asked. “Uh, I don’t know. I fell one day and started harbating. I’m remembering it now, but it’s really fuzzy.” “Long periods of hibernation do that. Come to my house, let me catch you up.” Akasuki, their full name, I learned, was quite nice. He let me stay in his house while I got my footing, and learn about the clan. Corrosionius was a nice place, with all sorts of dragons living together in something close to harmony. No-one was bound by religion or hatred, they could love and live as they wanted. It broke my heart to think of leaving, but I had to. I needed to live my life. imginate, The Drifting Island wrote:
Somehow, I ended up washing ashore of an island. I wasn’t sure when or how I had fallen unconscious, but the Coatl that greeted me was nice enough to introduce me to where I was and hand me a map, even though it wasn’t part of their job.
Luckily, most dragons didn’t seem to recognise where my name came from, and the ones that seemed like they did said nothing about it. I had a good time looking around, and even got the chance to participate in their winter festival; I didn’t know how to dance, but the strangers whose hands I accepted were kind enough to not comment on the amount of times I’ve misstepped. Still, despite the openness of this place, it wasn’t right for me. After a brief round of questioning, I dove into the waters surrounding the island, and started swimming. Miere, The Above & Plumire wrote:
I'm not sure why I didn't stop somewhere else earlier on after getting out of the water, but after about a week of travelling, I made it all the way to northern Sornieth into the lands of the Gladekeeper. The jungles were rough to navigate without a guide but it didn't take long for me to find one- or have one find me at least.
Many clans within the land seem very kind though I'm sure there are those who aren't as friendly. The Veilspun who was leading me couldn't speak a lick of common tongue but they seemed to know the lands as well as the back of their claws. Whatever clan they belonged had seemed to have moved in the time they had been gone so it took yet another few days of journeying to find them again, leaving us swimming from the Gladeveins to a location behind the Behemoth. |
