I know it's not such a big deal now, with everybody's dragons at only Gen 1 or Gen 2, but once we get to the Gen 3 and up, it's gonna get a little confusing and tedious to have to keep track to every dragon that yours is related to, especially if dragons that are too closely related are not going to be able to breed.
I suggest a sort of Family Tree linked to the dragon in question to make things easier for breeding and maybe save some people some hassles down the road.

That would be good.
It's certainly not a problem yet, but someday it could be...
I don't want to buy a fifth generation dragon for breeding, only to find out that it's somehow related to my dragons.

I also probably wouldn't be breeding anything past 2 or 3 but a lot of other people probably will, since it's not a hex breeding system here. I just forsee a whole lot of 'Oh I bought X dragon to breed to Y dragon but they can't because they're within 3 Gens of each other *whine, whine*'. It just saves a lot of hassle.
On the other end of the scale, it would be kind of cool to see where your progeny ended up.

Perhaps a page where you could enter 2 dragons and a script would test if they are related within 5 generations? If it could tell you how many dragons were in common and how many generations back they are that would be great.
Maybe it could use the dragon's number to let people check breeding with dragons that they don't currently own.

You'll actually be pleased to know that if you attempt to pair two dragons that are within the inbreeding generational threshold, it will now throw an error that specifies what their common ancestor is. You can give it a try by trying to breed parents or siblings right now, if you want!

Thanks, that will be helpful.

Thanks.
That doesn't help when buying them, though. I suppose I could peruse the family trees manually before buying, but there's always the risk that someone else buys the dragon while I'm checking the ancestors.

I think it would be neat if when someone clicks on, say, the word "Lineage" in the profile, the site generates a family tree containing all the siblings that it can't breed with with links to those dragons profiles if possible.
My 2¢.

I like this idea simply because I like tracing family trees back hundreds of levels to the origional two.

There actually are games that have generatable family trees, notably Crusader Kings II (in which breeding humans is a central game mechanic). Something like that would be awesome, though I'm geussing it would be difficult to make.
Like this, but with dragons? (large image alert)
