Haappy Hatchday!
I haven't gotten much further with that bird picture yet, but today I made the first entry in my nature journal.
...And of course the first critter posing for me was one whose English name FR doesn't like. So my translation of the page will have an inaccuracy.

Ah well, this is not about perfection anyway
So, this is how it starts. That was really fun. And that last sentence in there is defitintely true. It's not about perfection, is about the moment. The bird was just lineart until I got back inside and could look at a reference for the colours, and I'm very sure the bumblebee is not entirely accurate (the leaf, to its credit, was a very patient model, though).
But together, this all captures the essence of the moment, and just like that, I'll remember that little moment in time. Yeah, actually sitting down and drawing things as they happen is a nice change of perspective and a new way of appreciation.
