Velvetpaws's All-the-Genes Challenge
Well, I'm not sure where the idea came from, but I suddenly conceived a desire to have one example of every primary, secondary, and tertiary gene in my lair. This is going to be the log and general dumping ground for things related to this challenge.
Rules (more like guidelines):
- The dragons will all be mirrors (or end up that way), so I'm only aiming for modern genes.
- I can breed change and regene to my heart's delight. (I'll probably have some rare color combo to cry over at some point; that's enough to deal with.)
- The dragons have to hold to my general aesthetic of "soft mirrors," which means I can't just yoink some rando off the AH and check off a gene.
- The dragons will all be integrated into my main clan, comprising the Adumbral Pack, Wingsong Cove, and Silverstone tabs of my lair. (I haven't decided yet whether the Elder Powers are going to be part of my lore clan or will be moved to a showcase tab in my den, so I'm holding off on including them for now.) That means they'll have to have a lore vibe as well as an aesthetic vibe.
The next several posts are my tracking lists (I'm not sure if I'm actually going to track eyes or not, but I wanted to hold space for it), then a reserve or two for who knows what, and then actual posting begins.
This thread is open for comments, so feel free to keep me company on this journey!

Found a dragon in my projects tab that might get me both cinder and flair:

Retaining the lace is pretty too, but I think I prefer the softening from the stained.

Made some progress since last posting! (...tbh, I forgot this was a thing for a while.)
Vanity for pinstripe and trail, two genes I've struggled with in mirrors; I'm not generally a fan of the more straight-lines genes, and pinstripe bends oddly over mirrors' shoulders, imho. But I like him even without the apparel covering his back; maybe it's the stained tert softening the lines. And I love the detailing on the head fins. (Bonus--no breed or gene change required!)

Returning to this after the lapse, I was surprised that I didn't already have boulder! I could have sworn I did, but then I realized that it's some of my hatchery pairs who have it, and they aren't part of this challenge. In any case, I finally acquired it with this mischief. I got her because of the honeydew opal despite hating her original primary (maize iridescent, ugh, why must you do that to the head fins); boulder is pretty much the only primary that doesn't have the gnarly greeny-yellow accent color. (Originally a guardian; no change to secondary or tert.)

Pellucid for chrysocolla/malachite! This is a gene that I find really cool in theory but that somehow never quite works for me when designing actual dragons. This girl finally broke through that barrier, thanks to the soap. (She looks *really* different without it!) She only needed a breed change, too.

Beach! Gawd, I love this himbo dork (who's currently nesting his way through Windsong Cove, lol). Sanddollar chorus/choir is a pure delight. (I think he was originally a cry/flair spiral.)

And I've got another pair of genes to report, but I'm waiting until I've garbed the dragon and figured out where he fits in the lore.
