Growing Pains:
As Stripes came of age, and Gild and Houlihan tended their nest, the gang continued to thrive. Nebula kept the Rumblers on their toes, ensuring that they trained every day, so that the next time they decided to go on a big heist, they'd be better prepared for it. The survivors of the last heist grew more accustomed to better numbers again, and Nebula deemed a couple of new dragons worthy of his time. First among them was
Auda, a nippy little fae who he thought would be ideal for getting into smaller spaces. Her friend
Clover, however, was not so enticing...
Test the Newbies:
Roll a d10 for each of your lowest-level dragons. If it’s higher than their level, exalt them. They were not good enough. Raise the remaining low-level dragons by one level.
Back at base, Scute tasked himself with seeing if their little scrapper, Stripes, was worth keeping around. But where much of the gang had learned to fear the two-faced wildclaw, Stripes had grown up with him in the background. Unintimidated, he passed Scute's brutal rite of passage plans in the recently unearthed
silk-strewn wreckage, becoming a fully-fledged Riddleport Rumbler at last.
Not Good Enough:
In Riddleport City, a pair of would-be guards sulked through the streets, frustrated with their lot in life. Madrepore had offered them a second chance to pass their exams and become proper members of the guards, but both dragons stubbornly turned him down, insulted by the offer. After all, they
were good enough, no matter what he said! And if the captain wouldn't have them then, well, what was the point in being such a pair of goody-two-claws? Both of them decided to throw their lot in with the Rumblers instead, but only
Keller survived the trip into the mire.
Caster's pride turned out to be her downfall.
Honorable Duel:
Two members got into a fight and won't back down - the only way to settle this for once and for all is a duel to the death. Take two random dragons (excluding the leader) into the coli and exalt whoever faints first. Raise the survivor by one level.
But not everybody thought Keller was good enough to join the team. As mumbles of 'once a guard, always a guard' grew louder and louder, Moses decided to prove his own position by challenging the larger guardian to a duel. It was a long and drawn-out fight, but in the end Keller was the one to limp back to the city, hoping that the guard would take pity on him and save his bacon after all. Scute, of course, nobly offered to accompany him all the way... the guard did not give him a second chance, that day.
Prison Windowshopping:
Scute did, however, come home with a pair of new recruits that he
coincidentally liberated from the prison while he was up in the city. The first was an older coatl,
Andra - someone he hoped would bring some wisdom to the group, and who might get along with Nebula. She hit it off with the imperial right away, and was immediately invited to join the Rumblers. The second was a mirror named
Sandstorm; younger, scrappier, but also clumsier. Suffering a fall during the recruitment trials, he was left in the woods to fend for himself.
Crimes Time:
Crimes time! Pick two dragons at random. They have to go on a quest now. Raise both of them a level. Roll a 6-sided die for each. If it’s a 1, exalt them as they were lost in the mission.
On the way back to the lair, Nebula and Andra ran into a caravan of merchants, their carts laden with gold and gems and expensive goods. The two exchanged a look, before taking to the cover of the trees to hatch a quick and nasty plan to relieve the travellers of their heavy load. Unfortunately, neither of them accounted for the passenger that they were
also transporting.
While Riddleport City's blacksmith,
Spathodea, was weaker than both of the two bandits, she also had the element of surprise. When the newbie was overpowered, Nebula cut his losses, took his treasures, and ran, leaving her in his dust so that he could heist another day.
