The Tangled Woods might seem like a poor place to set up a business, but nestled among the twisting brambles there is one trading company that thrives. The wealthy, entrepreneuring dragons owe their success to their acute business acumen and complete and utter lack of morals... plus a little help from what lurks in the shadows...

Welcome to

Excelsior Enterprises

A corporate horror comedy fodderlocke.

Yeah, I basically discovered the concept of a fodderlocke and decided I wanted to do one, but wanted to do it a little differently than the usual organized crime dealie. Then had the thought "Hmm, what's worse than regular criminals? I know: rich people." and this ridiculous concept was born.

This thread's still something of a wip at the moment, I'll probably work on it more as I go, but I just wanted to get the basics down so I could get started. Pardon the mess.

Meet the team These are the current dragons at the helm of Excelsior Enterprises. They are all either rich, awful, stupid, but are most likely all of the above. Sure, its terms were steep and somewhat sinister, but he's a businessman, and is confidant that he and his associates can fulfill their end of the very profitable bargain. If they have to sacrifice a few interns to a creepy shadow monster, then so be it. A true numbers man, Strafford cares about one thing: making the profit margin fatter, at any cost. He's far from opposed to a bit of dirty dealing to help make this happen, especially since he now has an eldritch overseer keeping a close eye on his numbers. Meet the team

These are the current dragons at the helm of Excelsior Enterprises. They are all either rich, awful, stupid, but are most likely all of the above.

Current CEO:

67762466_350.png

Aerindale

Aerindale saw forming a pact with the mysterious Excelsior as a perfect way to become even more filthy rich than he already was. Sure, its terms were steep and somewhat sinister, but he's a businessman, and is confidant that he and his associates can fulfill their end of the very profitable bargain. If they have to sacrifice a few interns to a creepy shadow monster, then so be it.

Other employees:

67759457_350.png

Strafford

A long-time business associate of Aerindale, Strafford was apprehensive about dealing with Excelsior at first, but when he saw the sum being offered all that apprehension went out the window. A true numbers man, Strafford cares about one thing: making the profit margin fatter, at any cost. He's far from opposed to a bit of dirty dealing to help make this happen, especially since he now has an eldritch overseer keeping a close eye on his numbers.

67764837_350.png

Julera

As the head of HR at Excelsior Enterprises, it's Julera's job to help manage the interpersonal conflicts and general pettiness that arises between their colleagues. Unfortunately, most of their advice boils down to "just quit whining and get back to work". Though on the surface their job is about making sure everyone gets along, their real concern is with identifying particularly troublesome employees who refuse to bend their personal ideals to be more in line with the company's. Such individuals are swiftly removed from the picture, by a variety of means.

67745647_350.png

Ricard

The younger of the two Valein siblings, Ricard was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He's never had to work a day in his life thanks to his sister and the generous fortune left to them by their parents, and to call him a spoiled brat would be a massive understatement. He's helping finance EE in the hopes the profits will allow him to fund his lavish lair's third sauna, among other things.

67745648_350.png

Noemi

The elder of the Valein siblings, Noemi learnt everything she knows about managing a business from her mysteriously deceased parents. She's a cutthroat business woman who will destroy all competition in pursuit of profit, despite the fact that her family is already ridiculously rich. Though maybe that's understandable, since her useless brother seems intent on frittering away their fortune one luxury item at a time.

67774236_350.png

Smokey

An intern from a wealthy family, Smokey was always shunned by others of his kind due to his pale colouration. But if there's one thing he learnt from his parents, it's that money buys adoration. Once he's become stinking rich from this Excelsior business, he'll have the resources to buy all the friends he needs... and to make those who bullied him pay...

67781922_350.png

Brie

Brie first heard of Aerindale while she was pursuing a business degree in one of Arcane's top universities. She was studying his previous company, Dale Goods & Services, for a class project, and she quickly became very impressed with his his life and his many economic successes. He became a huge inspiration for her, and she vowed to one day use her own skills and prowess to become as rich and well regarded as him. So when years later she heard about an opening in his new company Excelsior Enterprise, Brie jumped at the chance to work with her idol first-hand. Now she has her dream job, and is surrounded by many dragons who have been in the industry a lot longer than she has. It's a bit intimidating, but she's prepared to do anything to impress them. This is her big chance, after all.

62512062_350.png

Unfading

No one's sure why (or how) Unfading came to work at EE, but he's certainly good at his job. He just has a knack for predicting investment opportunities and balancing the books, despite having no apparent qualifications, nor any kind of resume for that manner. When asked where he sees himself in five years, he says "communing with the great one", and will not elaborate any further on what that means. He's definitely a bit of an odd duck, but seems mostly harmless. At least he's never late to the office! Come to think of it... does he ever leave the office?

67532872_350.png

Garli

A brilliant young engineer who's in charge of technological development at the company. Although they're a genius, their work ethic leave something to be desired, and they have trouble giving their all on any projects other than their own ones. That's something that could get them in trouble down the line...

67997811_350.png

Dizzy

A cheerful young intern who is all about ~positivity~. She's always ready to help out her coworkers - perhaps too ready, as her co-workers can often be found grumbling about her buzzing around and getting in everyone else's way. Her heart's in the right place though, which is more than can be said of most of the dragons here.

68138878_350.png

Locket.

Is a baby that seemingly belongs to Unfading. Will join the company when she grows up.

65995910_350.png

Hobart

Formerly a gang member, Hobart is ready to move on to a more sophisticated type of crime: rich people crime. He's not rich people yet, but he hopes to be soon. How hard can it be? he heard these guys have a monster that can make infinite treasure, that sounds great!

68013293_350.png

Elfstone

A lazy bogsneak who has absolutely no idea what they're doing, and who really only took this job to hang out with their friend Hobart. Elfstone has never regretted hanging out with their bestie before, what could possibly be different about this time?

Disgraced Employees

These dragons have failed the company in some way, and have been taken by Excelsior. They now supposedly work directly for it, but what exactly their new eternal career entails is a mystery.

Rules

The rules are mostly the same as Squidragon's original fodderlocke, but I have made some additions and tweaks here and there when I felt like it.

Notable changes:
  • The names of several Phase 2 events have been changed to fit better with the theme (full list below)
  • When rolling for recruits during Phase 1, after eight failed rolls (or less if I'm impatient) I may switch to rolling a d4, with four being a success. If I manage to roll twelve fails, no recruits passed that week and I move on to the drama phase.
  • When two dragons are in a Romance, instead of them both automatically getting exalted together, I flip a coin to see if they get exalted at the same time or not.
  • Those in power get special privileges: CEOs have one "extra life" (two in the case of Aerindale because he's a special boy), meaning that the first time they would be exalted, they are spared. Does not apply to the Stepping Down event.
  • New recruits are immune to the Performance Meeting event if it is rolled on the same day they are hired, meaning they will neither be exalted nor gain a level. It's their first week, give 'em a chance to do something at least.
  • In the event that a dragon reaches level 25, The Bargain Is Fulfilled and the game is over. What this means remains to be seen...
  • Once I run out out of dragons, Excelsior Enterprises is not over, unless I decide it should be. Instead, what will happen is the last dragon who would have been exalted becomes the new CEO (if they weren't already) and levelled up twice. I will then buy the three cheapest adult dragons on the AH, level them up to 5, and we begin anew. If I ever get sick of doing this, I may end it when this happens, but the True Ending is only achieved when a dragon reaches level 25.
  • In the interest of pacing, this challenge is measured in weeks instead of days (not equal to real weeks of course).
  • For flavour, each member of Excelsior Enterprises is given one apparel item (more in the case of the leader). This has to be either something I just have lying around already or the cheapest apparel item on the AH. Starting apparel does not give an extra life, only apparel earned via gene drops does (extra lives will be recorded in a dragon's bio so that I don't forget).
  • If I roll the Performance Meeting or Stepping Down events within three weeks of the last time I rolled them, I may choose to reroll for something else (does not apply if the last Stepping Down failed due to a CEO's extra life)
  • In the event that no dragons are eliminated for 6 weeks, or if the total number of dragons involved in this challenge reaches 20, hold an immediate Performance Meeting. Treat this meeting as if the initial coin flip was heads, and do not level up any surviving dragons.

These rules are subject to change as I go, always in the interest of keeping things fun and interesting.

Renamed Phase 2 events:

Roll a 12-sided die. Your next challenge is as follows:
  1. Office Scandal: Pick two of your ready to breed dragons at random if you have any. Put them on a nest. The babies will join Excelsior Enterprises when they hatch. Level them to 5 when they come of age. If the parents would be exalted while they’re on the nest, wait until their nest hatches and Then exalt them. If nobody is ready to breed, grab a random hatchie off the AH. A secret forbidden child or sibling has been uncovered.
  2. Watercooler Romance: Pick two dragons, either at random or by what would be most interesting. If they are not related, they are now in a relationship, and their fates are bound together. If one of them gets exalted, flip a coin. If heads, their love gets exalted as well. If tails, love loses and their love is left all alone
    :(
  3. Resupply Mission: Your business is in constant need of supplies to sell. Take any two of your dragons into a coli venue that is too low for them to gain experience. (Your choice). Go until you get one of the following, as determined by rolling a d4:

    1) Bring Your Pet To Work Day (Look for a familiar)
    2) Money Laundering (Look for a chest or other openable)
    3) Strength is Power (Look for a battlestone)
    4) Dress to Impress (Look for an apparel item)
  4. Lied on the Resume: Uh oh, you accidentally hired some random dragon who was waaaaaay underqualified for this position. Grab the cheapest adult off the AH. Leave them at level 1. For bonus points, try sniping an underpriced adult.
  5. Broker a Deal: (Functionally identical to Corporate Sabotage and Teambuilding Exercise)Pick two dragons at random to go make a deal with another company that will be profitable for the both of you. Raise both of them a level. Roll a 6-sided die for each. Either of them that rolled a 1 has FAILED to negotiate a good deal and is taken by Excelsior.
  6. Corporate Sabotage: (Functionally identical to Broker a Deal and Teambuilding Exercise) Pick two dragons at random to go and sabotage a business venture of a rival company. Raise both of them a level. Roll a 6-sided die for each. Either of them that roll a one have FAILED their sabotage efforts, and they are either caught and captured by the competition or taken by a displeased Excelsior.
  7. Teambuilding Exercise: (Functionally identical to Broker a Deal and Corporate Sabotage)Pick two dragons at random to go partake in a teambuilding exercise together. Raise both of them a level. Roll a 6-sided die for each. Either of them that roll a one have FAILED to work together with their co-worker, and are taken by Excelsior for being too difficult.
  8. Family Business: Grab the cheapest hatchie off the AH. Level it to 5 when it comes of age.
  9. Backstabbing: Flip a coin. If heads, choose a dragon at random who is not the leader. Exalt them. If tails, take two random not-leader dragons into the coli and exalt whoever faints first.
  10. Test the Interns. Roll a d10 for each of your lowest-level dragons. If it’s higher than their level, exalt them. They were not good enough. Raise the remaining low-level dragons by one level.
  11. Performance Meeting: Every staff member has to go and meet with Excelsior to see how they did this financial year. Flip a coin. If heads, it is displeased. Roll a d12 for every dragon. If you get higher than their level, exalt them. Raise all remaining dragons by one level. If tails, Excelsior is quite pleased! Instead of getting exalted, any dragons who failed the above roll simply don't gain a level.
  12. Stepping Down: Exalt your CEO. They have either been the victim of a hostile takeover by another, or Excelsior has deemed them unfit for their role. Either way, they are now taken and a new leader must be determined from the remaining dragons. The highest level dragon will be it. If there is a tie, the oldest tied dragon shall be the leader. Level the tied dragon one level to make it better than its peers.
