TOPIC | Overwhelming Effects w/ 2 Versions
Some of the current effects are far too overwhelming to be versatile. Before anyone gets riled up over me saying that, let me explain (and note that it is an opinion).

Having overwhelming effects isn't inherently a bad thing, so I am not going to say that we shouldn't have them at all. Quite the opposite (I obviously found a use for one), but I think these effects could've had far more versatility than they currently have. The problem is that there's too much going on for some effects when they could've been two or three differing effects, or their opacities are extremely high with no way to change them.

What I would like to see are more versatile effects that don't largely cover the entire dragon, or aren't so glaringly... there. An opacity slider would be the most ideal situation but, if not that, then please have some toned down versions. Here are some examples of how to tone down effects that I think are currently too overwhelming. To clarify, these are examples using the ones we already have.
  • Beryl Plunge darkens the dragon a lot and, while cool, doesn't work for a lot of water dragons whose intent may be to show off the brighter colors that the Water flight can exhibit. A more versatile version of this would be to have the light off the water effect that fades into darkness and the bubble effect separated. The bubble effect would be a great option for any Water dragon who is intended to actually be under the water (or not, if you prefer) while more depth-related dragons could get that darkened effect. You could even take this a step further and have a different deep sea effect with the darkness (such as general fish silhouettes in the background) and the light off the water effect be their own thing.
  • Dearly Departed nearly covers the entire dragon and, to add to it, makes it extremely hard to see the dragon underneath. It's worse than Beryl Plunge in that regard because, at least for Beryl Plunge, most of the dragon is left intact. This one completely kills the dragon if you want to show off what makes your dragon unique. By comparison, an effect that was less heavy on the opacity at the top portion of the dragon (the bottom could stay the same) would have more versatility for those who want to actually see parts of their dragon while keeping the effect. The color overlay could remain as long as the opacity didn't completely change the dragon to have barely any display of color and/or genes.
  • Pastel Pulse is arguably worse than Dearly Departed, if not just as bad for the same reasons. You can't really tell what the dragon underneath is in most cases, though darker colors are more likely to be noticed. You don't need to separate this into multiple effects but, without an opacity slider, there should've been a more subtle version. I could see it being really cool as a soft overlay (as pastels are typically supposed to be), but this doesn't really scream pastel in the current iteration to me. It screams, "MY EYES!"
  • Sunrise, Moonrise I have a love-hate relationship with because I can see areas where the current opacity works and I can see a lot of areas where it will absolutely not. I think this one could be good being separated as sky and ground (although this would take some extra work to not make the ground's absence look like the sky wasn't just cut off at the bottom with scissors). It covers a lot of the dragon, and most of the time I can't even tell what the dragon underneath looks like in terms of genes alone.

Basically, I don't mind the overwhelming effects in very specific and niche circumstances. However, I think that those effects could easily have been multiple to allow more people to use the specific effects they want or need. If a niche effect can be split into multiple different ones or covers the dragon to a point of barely seeing it (if at all), then I would appreciate if the developers would potentially consider making them at least two different effects: the full, unedited effect (such as the current Beryl Plunge), and a more simple, easy effect (like Beryl Plunge's bubbles). For high opacity effects, if we don't get a slider, then it would be nice to have the high opacity version alongside a low opacity version.

Obviously an opacity slider is most ideal, but I figure that I may as well throw my two cents in just in case a slider isn't doable. And request environmental/weather effects in the future be separated a bit so that we have that general purpose version without all of the secondary effects. I'd love some bubbles for my pirate girl (technically she's a sunken pirate), but I don't want everything else that goes with it.

I tend to be blunt. Don't take it personally; it's not.
