I'm kind of a casual when it comes to computer drawing. I can colour though, so I love to make skins. Thing is, the cost of blueprints is so impossibly high that I can't sell to anyone, because even if it were non-profit, I'd have to charge 2000 gems! I'm not good enough to win a contest, and I'm not interested in buying any gems. so what do I do if I want to distribute my skins?
Edit: This has been answered, but I don't know how much people would be willing to pay for skins at this level of quality(Or lack thereof.):

Sorry I can't make it any smaller.

Rikivoop Take preorders in the Skins and Accents forum! The price per copy goes way down when you buy in bulk, get multiple people to chip in for five or ten copies and then use their gems to buy the blueprints.

When I started making accents, I'd design an accent and take preorders, and then take payment once I had 10 preorders. As a 10-accent pack is 2500gems, I charged 500 gems per accent, and this covered the cost of the pack and left me with enough left over to just order my next pack of accents to sell.
You could do the same with skins if you want to have enough left over to just make more skins right off the bat. (although it might be a little more tricky since 10 skins is twice the price of 10 accents!) or you could just charge 500gems per skin if you just want to cover your costs.
If you're looking at doing custom skins and on offs for people though just set a base-line price and request that people provide their own blueprints. I think that's what a good number of one-off skin designers do!

There's something called "Skin Blueprint (10)" which sells for 5000G. What it does is give you 10 identical copies of your skin design. So if you break it down, each skin will cost 500G instead of the 2000G if you buy them one by one. There are also pack of 5 and 2 but the cost of individual skin increases with smaller packs.
Even if you'd like to make individual skins rather than a pack of identical skins, you can buy ones like "5-Skin Bundle" at 8000G, which when opened gives you 5 individual skin blueprints. This lets you print 5 different skins but only one each. If you go with this one, it'd be 1600G per skin which is high but not as high as the full 2000G price.
edit:
Oh yes, the above post reminded me about custom skin. Most artist ask the buyer to provide their own blueprints. You CAN include blueprint cost in your charge and the buyer will understand where it came from. That's the basic cost of printing and they can't complain about that. ^^
