However, the dragon queen refuses to negiociated terms without the presence of the mortal-bound: a human with the soul of a dragon. The last one lived over 400 years ago and no one knows if any has been born since then.

The hall had once been a cave before their forebearers had shaped it into its true glory as it stood today. It was large enough to fit the eldest of dragons comfortably but the delicate details etched into the stone stopped it from seeming excessively so. Reaching halfway up to the ceiling were wall hangings depicting those events from history worth recording. Following after were curving balconies and perches where dragons could sit and watch the proceedings in the hall. Some of these branched off into hallways leading deeper into the mountain so dragons could come and go without disturbing those down below. A wall of windows faced south, letting sunlight fill the room no matter the time of day.

At the moment, a spring rain turned the glass cold and fogged, obscuring what he knew to be a magnificent view of the entire valley and the mountain range it was cradled in.

The most important feature in the room, however, was the long stone table in the center of the hall. It seemed to grow from the very rock it stood on and if legends were true, it did. So much magic did it take to pull the table from the ground, that still some lingered. The power imbued in the table made every decision binding. One did not sit down at it lightly.

It made Belenus glad that he was not deemed important enough to receive an invitation for today's meeting.

Seated at the head of the table was Queen Agrona. In this grand hall, she was the only one that was not dwarfed. On her right was her heir, Princess Ysolt, who was almost as large as her mother despite being only 152. Like every descendant of King Cernunn, her scales were red, bright like freshly spilled blood while her mothers were dull and graying with age.

On the queens other side was her most trusted adviser, the Lord Tarangra, who also served as her translator. A month ago he was just her translator and only rose to his new position by the grace of being the only dragon who agreed with her.

Further down the table, further than Belenus knew she would like, was Princess Blathnat. Belenus was perched behind her on the first balcony, too far away to talk to her but close enough that if she turned around he could sign to her.

The humans were the farthest away from the queen. They looked ridiculously tiny at the table, like ants at a feast. Due to chairs being made with dragons in mind, the humans were forced to stand on them. A helpful dragon must have lifted them, as there was no way they could have gotten there themselves. There were five of them but the ambassador was the only one Belenus recognized, the humans too hard to tell apart.

He repressed a sigh and settled in. This will be the ninth grand meeting since the humans arrived a month ago, begging for their help.
