I'm not sure why it would freeze, I'm so sorry!
Using the Fire Flight banner as an example, right click on the image. There will be a load of options that come up, and you should choose "Copy image URL"-- make sure that the end of the URL for the image says ".gif". You can check this by pasting into an empty Word document, sticky note, or even check it when you go to your account settings and edit your forum signature.
This is the URL for the Fire Flight gif banner, acquired using the same method I just detailed above!

I hope that this helps.. If all else fails, right click and save the image as a ".gif" to your pictures, and upload it to either imgur (if you want a smaller url to deal with), photobucket, or any other photo hosting site.
