A festival-goer happily digs through the discount bins. Vintage, artisanal, and more likely than not- abandoned pieces that only require some tender loving care to shine. A single tattered scroll stuck within a scroll case that is just as tattered draws their attention. Unfurling it reveals a haiku- once clearly drenched in blood and full of tear stains. There's also a scratched out word or two. And edited poem. You'd think poets could count properly but alas! So for a low price of 5 treasure at the discount, you too can take home heartache and suffering encapsulated in 11 words!

Entry Title: Tempest Within
It was a peaceful afternoon, the Sun was shining, the air was fresh and crisp, and the Air Market was bustling with dragons. Auriga approached the Air Market, he was a vendor selling handsewn plushies, or he was supposed to be one. He'd spent the whole morning anxious about setting up his stall.
”What if no one likes them? What if I end up right next to someone else selling plushies but theirs are way better than mine?... Maybe this was a mistake… I can still go home, it's not like anyone would notice. But what would I tell my clanmates?”
Nevertheless, Auriga found himself walking up to an empty stall, his stall. Truth be told, he was supposed to be here yesterday morning. ”Better late than never I suppose…” Thankfully neither of the stalls next to his were selling plushies. Auriga let out a sigh of relief and started setting up shop.
As the days went by and noon turned to dusk, plenty of dragons passed by. Some even complimented his work, yet he hadn't made a single sale. ”... This is a mistake, isn't it? Why did I think this was a good idea? Stop, calm down, you're overthinking everything, just breathe.”
Auriga closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He could smell various street foods other vendors were selling, he could hear the clamour between dragons in the distance, he could feel the soft spring breeze against his scales. ”Maybe everything's alright, there's still some sunlight left, and there'll always be tomorrow… What are you saying, it's been hours and no one has bought anything. I should give up before it's too late.”
”It always ends like this, no matter how hard I try. I give it my all, but it always comes out to be mediocre…”
”Calm down, everything's fine.”
”I just don't want to be a failure, this is my dream… If this is your dream then why aren't you having fun?”
”Calm down.”
”I want to have fun, no matter what I do, where I go. There's just someone who's better, why should I try if there's always just someone who can do what I do, but better. No one would want to actually waste treasure on you, no one actually cares, no one actually likes you… I just want to do it right…”
“Hi mister!”
Auriga grounded himself and peered over, two hatchlings were standing in front of his stall. A Spiral and a Tundra were both looking up at him wide eyed.
“Can I have the gale wolf?”
“And could I have the wind sprite please?”
Auriga handed the plushies over to the hatchlings once their parents handed over some treasure. He watched them walk away, heading over to other vendors.
”... Maybe this wasn't a- no, I'm sure of myself. This wasn't a mistake.”

Entry Title: Tree of Hearts
Skeleton of a tree
Beats in time
A heart
Hollow
Paint the bark!
Red and white
Alive
It flakes
The wind
It takes
I watch the paint seep into the earth
Swirls of toxin
Poison
It’s in the water
Drink!
We’re all mad here
The hatter the hatter
Had mercury on his platter
The rabbit the rabbit
Had lead in his teacup
The queen the queen
Drank the water from the tree
Paint the bark!
She tells us
Or maybe she told us
Before
It’s hard to remember
Before before
What came before?
The rabbit lost his watch
The hatter his timepiece
The queen her clock
Father Time does not get along
With me
Layers of paint
Hide the decay
The tree reaches far
Roots
They wrap
Around and around
Touch each lake and pond
Drain them
Fill them
Red and white
Paint!
In our streams in our dreams in our rivers and our oceans and our homes
Everywhere
In our veins
We drink
My heart it beats
In time with the tree
I watch it
As it watches me
We’re all mad here
You more than me
Because I tell this story
The truth is on me
If I say the tree is paint red, it is
If I say the queen lost her heart, she did
If I say the branches hold beating souls
They
Do

Entry Title: To Eat or Not to Eat
The wind is laughing at me
It stretches over me
Carrying the smell of bread
How could you!
I ask the wind
My diet!
I say, feeling faint
No mercy
Still, it brings me the smell of bread
Of candied apples
Of greasy kebabs
Of bentos with mackerel
Oh, my love!
Mackerel!
I miss you so!
No, stay strong
Hold fast
I cannot!
Don’t give in!
The warm air laughs at me
It slows me down
Catches at my ankles
Wraps around my knees
Curls around my throat
I am molasses
A glacier
Frozen in the heat
A contradiction
To eat or not to eat
That is the question!

Entry Title: Solamegrua and Shenanigans
I was on my way, just a meander-y spirally flight to my destination because, you know, the journey is part of the fun! And that's what this was all about. Fun! You could see it set across the field and evening sky of the fairgrounds even from there, such a lively festival of lights and kites and other things too! My path wandered out over and back across the shoreline before I figured it time to make my way inland -in a most dynamic and spectacular fashion, mind you- when something pulled at my vision, something in the water below. What was it that had caught my eye, but a water imp staring off toward the festival grounds' floating walkways and lights. A rare sight they are, to be sure, and curious was I to know just why it lingered there. I gave the poor puddle-hopper quite the start when I dove down to greet him, but I quickly assured him I meant no harm, only wondered what it was he sought that brought him all the way to the edge of water's domain. Reluctantly he shared his wish to see the colorful festival going on over yonder way, and the lament of that which kept him there at the shore's edge. A detail, I might add, that I shall keep to myself lest it cause him trouble. As I listened, a plan began to form in my mind, one of my better ones I might say! An energetic explanation and a smidge of handicraft later, and we were off. My spirits soaring, I twirled and twisted through the air toward the festival, and the pace? just as upbeat... perhaps a little TOO upbeat for my little friend from the look on his face when I craned my neck to check on him. A rummage through my pack as we neared the festival grounds found us the beginnings of our plan, part 2! A simple cloak with a swirling pattern... Well, it may have been a conveniently sized length of kite cloth held in place with some thick yarn and bells, but I say cloak! I land at the edge of the festival, my now-cloaked friend sliding down my back and onto the solid ground. I could tell he was having trouble keeping his head down with all the sights and sound arrayed just in front of him. Weaving our way through the walk-ways betwixt stalls I spied the next part of my plan, a booth selling colorful masks! We had a laugh trying on all sorts of masks. A trade for our favorites and he was nearly ready to explore the festival to his heart's content. We hit a bunch of cloud-billow bun and other snack stands, and gawked at glimmering baubles before I caught sight of just what we needed. It was a silly little stall simply labeled "Solamegrua." The hatchlings running it were quick to give us nicknames to use during the festival on name tag stickers which they happily stuck to us. Now my new friend was ready to go off and explore all he wished!
