I just hatched a handful of Ancients with these genes and they did not complete these associated achievements.
It does not differentiate between Modern or Ancient, so I do not understand why these have not completed.
Additionally, many have been completed in my lair in the past, aside from those that completed when the gene update happened. I assume I will need to rebreed them to earn them.

You're right, I had to go to the Announcement post to see that yes, MODERN is highlighted. Rather rude that it's not on each achievement to keep from this kind of confusion.

Booooo! Thats so unfair for the breeding. They need to change it or make note of that in the achievement itself. Ive wasted at least 3 nests on this then

Same here. Didn't get any achievement for breeding the dragons... Good that I hit the forums. Now I know I shouldn't wait.
It would be really good for the achievement page to actually specify if it's for Mordern dragons and not for Ancients.
Only the Treasure to buy dragons for specific achievement got wasted... And my time.
