Just popping in to say that if you're not familiar with French, I wouldn't recommend the game. Like, at all. There are many other issues, but I feel like this one is higher up on the list considering it's being advertised on an English-speaking forum. And well, this presentation tells me the game is still not targeted at english-speakers… But I’ll try keeping it simple for those that will discover the website with this thread.
Gothicat World has a French board and an international board in its forum, but the international board has been left for dead. There are very few active players there, so for a game built on trades and discussions, it's not exactly ideal... There are a lot of forum sections that have been dead for years (the latest reply to a thread being posted in 2020 or even 2016!), and the more active sections are not doing much better - a bunch of news threads don't have a single reply, and most don't even have a full page. The game has an in-game English translation tho, but if you want to get involved in the community, you'll have to go to the French section of the forum as it is where most discussions are made. The international board will usually get its own threads for events or when premium creatures are out, but for community-based "games" (one example being official raffles) and the likes, you'll have one thread that'll be posted in the French board with both french and English text. There's no real effort from the mods to include non-french speakers otherwise; that board is managed by one of the admins, and that admin is pretty busy IRL and taking care of all the website's bugs (he's the only coder) so the news will often come late. I remember pretty vividly having a conversation with a mod once, where I mentioned the lack of consideration for the international players, and how the game would do much better if they tried including them better, and their response was pretty much "They're not worth the effort, no use in beating a dead horse" (of course, it wasn't said like that, but that's how it felt at the time of reading that answer).
There's an official Discord also, that also has an international section, but it's doing worse than the forum (to the point where if you have an issue, you'd be better off posting in the French section - at least you'll get an answer). All channels are deserted, no news are posted, and the sole (somewhat) active channel is only active because two French players are practicing their English there. The French have all kinds of channels, some non-related to the website (like you'll often have with game discords), but those channels are non-existent for English speakers. All you'll find on that Discord, if you're an English speaker, are channels related to the game. And that's it. Want to talk about your hobbies? And if your goal is to find english-speaking players, you need to tell whoever requested for a thread to be made on Flight Rising to work on making the game more accessible to non-french speakers.
