(Title should give fair warning for the scry images but just in case - beware, here there be meat dragons)
So I've been poking around at what petrified looks like in different colors (cause i love it conceptually - im a big fan of petrified wood as a favorite rock of mine) and I've come to realize. Just. A lot of colors make it look like their muscles are showing under their skin or something? I just can't unsee it.
I think it's just on a lot of colors the warmer tones get placed in the cracks and it could easily be interpreted as tissue. It's not bad on all colors (Lapis has a really gorgeous Starry Night-type vibe to it, for instance!) but I feel like I can sense an uptick in horror-themed dusthides with petrified primaries in the near future.
Also, somebody totally needs to make a Mystery Flesh Pit National Park fandragon with rust petrified primary. I mean. Look at this:
Banana is another one where it caught me totally off-guard (and the one that sent me down the rabbit hole of checking which colors feel near-body-horror)
And there's some where it's not as bad and looks closer to old scars or something, like Robin:
I dunno, maybe it's just me? But I did not expect to go through the colors and just see so many that gave me the vibes of "Hm, that might be meat!"
I'm not sure now if I do or absolutely do not want dusthides to ever get Trickmuck tert or something similar, because. Just. Can you imagine? Petrified + Trickmuck tert? Now that'd be a horror-themed dragon.
Anyways, curious to know other folks' thoughts, and maybe your favorite or least favorite color variant of Petrified. Some of them are super gorgeous (already mentioned lapis, but i'm also a fan of ivory and pearl with it)!
And as a gift for the horror-inclined, I decided to try and scry the worst, grossest, fleshiest-looking dusthide I could: here he is, probably fished fresh out of the Wyrmwound. please be warned, he is squicky. he is gross. he does not look pleasant.
