oooohhhh my progenitors have been through a lot... years of being exalted, multiple scatterscrolls (even on my custom progenitor) and lots of Unnamed offspring!
Once I finally got a good idea of my lore together, I decided to start a dedicated "lineage project," if you could call that, with them! (I'm normally a mono-G1 collector who doesn't breed my dragons so it's quite fun to be breeding again!) They're like the king and queen of my clan, so I treat their kids as the equivalent of princes and princesses. I breed them and choose the prettiest of their kids to include in the family lore xD Then, I'll probably find some nice dragons to breed with those children, and eventually, I'll have a whole royal family!
As for if you should breed your progenitors? It is quite rare to have non-bred progenitors because the tutorial kinda makes you, so that could be cool! It could also be super cool to breed them and include their kids in your lore. Just don't do what I did and exalt the kids Unnamed- I really regret that haha

My guys have only had their required children, which I've weaved into the lore enough so that I'm not super inclined to breed them again. Maybe my custom, but I'd also want that to be a lore thing, since I don't really breed any of my permas anymore.

First thing I did was breeding them because I didn't even knew about the offspring lists lol but my only regret was not keeping their first children :'( if I could restore just their first kid I would pay money for that *cries a river*
Another regret was breeding them with other dragons besides each other for lore reasons, but I circumvented that in their lore and since I want to see their linage spread I started a progen linage haha (my sig)
My advice is, do what you want to do and have fun, there's not only a way to play FR and as long as you're happy with the results that's all that matters :)

Are you not supposed to breed the progenitors? I thought that was encouraged.

there's no point in keeping the progens 'clean' since they can't be traded anyway? what's the point beyong ~aesthetic~ i guess? (which i never got about this whole topic anyway)
i breed my progens CONSTANTLY lol. i love getting random hatchies and i want them to have more babies than any dragon on the site tbh.
