Another one was dead.

Adya didn't know why it kept happening. The hatchling would be fine when it went to sleep, but then it never woke up.

"Aren't Guardians supposed to be on the coast? Isn't this their natural habitat?" Adya growled out of frustration.

Facet sat on the opposite end of the cave, letting her last-living child snuggle up against her. Ediz had not taken the death of her sister very well. No matter. It wouldn't be long before Ediz grew up and completely forgot all about her.

"The natural habitat has nothing to do with this," Facet replied, eyes never leaving Adya. "Hatchlings die all the time. Such is the matter of things."

"Ay, try sayin' that to those crazy owls," Sapling spoke up from where he had just walked in. Or, rather, limped in. He was covered in bruises and gashes, though nothing looked too serious.

"They almost snatched poor Cirrus away," he continued, disposing of the kills from today into the pile. "Had to use myself as a distraction."

"I got one of them, though!" Cirrus piped up from Sapling's side. "I got of them real good!"

"Of course you did," Faustus said, gently patting the little Obelisk's head. "I saw it myself."

Adya flicked her tail. "I take it the hunt was able to be finished?"

"Yes, ma'am," Faustus dipped her head. "There were difficulties, especially with little Cirrus tagging along, but we were able to succeed."

Cirrus furrowed his little eyes. "I'm not that little!"

"Of course, you aren't that little anymore," Faustus gently responded. "Not after this hunt, you aren't."

"I-I'm sorry, ye want uh....a...uh...."

"I want more hatchlings," Adya repeated. Her face was as stoic as ever, her body language still; calculating.

They were back.

In greater numbers, this time.

However, it was hard for the Centaurs to maneuver on the rocky terrain, on the cliffs that dropped hundreds of feet into the frigid ocean.

This time, they had the advantage. Facet and Adya led the ground assaults, with Faustus and Gildi swooping in from the sky. The battle was terrible, but they had learned of the Centaur's methods. They were prepared.

Their only casualty was Aonani, who had yet to learn how to properly fly. He would be remembered by his siblings, but Adya had all but forgotten about him at the end of the day. The weak were to be weeded out, she believed.

She was proud of her warriors. They were growing up to be fine soldiers- a great addition to her growing Empire.

She would find who was sending the Beast Clan her way, and she would end them.

Her Empire would see to it.

As it turns out, they were not fully successful.
