Went to double check and it does look like this gene breaks the skin/cent darkness/preserve lineart rule in several areas...
Please note that genes are not skins. The rules for skins are still the same.
Yeah I figured but still
....
....
what is the point of that rule then lol
Like, I'm genuinely curious why an official gene can be so dark a dragon is an indistinguishable blob but skin/cents can't? What's the reasoning here?
Seconded. It seems a little archaic.

personally i think the darkness is cool - it reminds me of how sanguine eel is so dark on obe's it makes them look like a blob but it creates a REALLY cool effect

that being said - if official genes are allowed to break the rules when skincent artists would get flagged for less, then the rule shouldn't be in place at all

hmm. on one hand, i adore these genes immensely and will definitely be using them. love this new approach of a flat neutral color w the main color as an accent - i know many folks have been wanting something like this for a while.
on the other, they definitely don't feel like they deserve the 1.5kg / 1.2kg price tag when they feel like. falcon / peregrine imo.
additionally, the blacks used don't even match btwn the primary and secondary? i guess it's fine if the intent is to allow for more freedom btwn prim and sec choices, but it feels real bad coupled w them being gem genes.
i'm not one to personally care about the pure blacks used, but i can definitely see how it's a head scratcher for others. feels like an error even if it's intentional. it definitely doesn't help that the least invasive way to mitigate that issue is with another gem gene [stained].

Gene is pretty, I like it, but a bit too dark in some parts, making hard to see details of the lineart and others. I believe will be a good contrast for some apparel and other genes, but seems a bit too dark/black in some parts.
Always keeping an eye on gene releases, looking forward for new genes that shows blue in goldenrod color :eyesmoji: hmmmm *w*

They are pretty cool... But I also find it hard to justify the price tag. It doesn't looks as complex as the other gem genes.
I just scryed these genes on a few of my dragons and WOW. These are some of the prettiest genes ever. Definitely going to have to get a few of these for my works in progress!
