I don't really know if it's obscure or really a magical girl anime, but Revolutionary Girl Utena gives off the aesthetic of a classic 90s magical girl anime with a fractured fairytale type theme
This one is absolutely fantastic. Though I do want to add that it has a lot of mature themes in the central story. Not gore or the like, but challenging subjects such as female identity, generational trauma, domestic violence, etc. It definitely is on the must-watch list in some feminist groups for a reason!

Mahou Tsukai Tai (Magic User's Club) is still a fave all these years later. (Yes, I'm an oldbie. :p) https://www.funimation.com/shows/magic-users-club/ (Two of the five mains are guys, one is gay, there's some tropeyness associated.)

My daughter is addicted to "Glitter Force," which is a crappy dub of Smile PreCure. The Pretty Cure series in general is cute and fun, but I rather like Smile PreCure - the fairy tale spin on the monsters is fun.

Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! (and the sequels, "Love! Love!," "Love! Love! Love!," and "Happy Kiss!") https://www.crunchyroll.com/cute-high-earth-defense-club-love I have a tattoo of Cerulean's loveracelet because I identify with him way too much. ^^; (All of the characters in this series are guys except for Martha in "Happy Kiss"; they use mostly neutral and occasionally feminine word forms for themself, and their dialog, dress and mannerisms make it pretty clear that they're a trans woman flying under the Japanese censors. The only thing that stops me from straight up using "she/her" is no official statement of preferred pronouns. They do have a serious reaction to being deadnamed.) The description of Martha's situation makes it sound awkward/bad, but I was actually SUPER pleased with how this series as a whole handled the topic of high schoolers navigating identity, relationships, and self without being shut down by content censors.

Bonus add: Dragon Ball Super started adding magical girl content! Freeza has a beautiful transformation sequence into Golden Freeza https://youtu.be/dA_iZoGGm2o and the Universe 2 warriors likewise have a beautiful transformation sequence https://youtu.be/aqRMe3Dg1Ig (and aren't exactly slouches themselves when it comes to fighting).

I don't know if it's obscure or not, but the Precure series is very fun to watch! There are a lot of series under that umbrella though.

My personal favorites are Heartcatch Precure!, Go! Princess Precure, and Hug! Pretty Cure!
