@BlueStarlight
welcome to FR! you may want to check out the fairgrounds or trading post since those will have some daily activities that you can do for some treasure, you may also want to use your gathering turns or possibly visit the coliseum for a little while, since those can give you items you can sell as well

as for dragons, you can visit the auction house to buy some or visit either the dragons for sale or raffles and giveaways forums, since some players will be offering some of their dragons to newer players

if you ever want to look for other stuff to do, you can always check out the which waystone, which you can access from the bottom right of the screen

edit since you added some stuff: the flatleaves are festival currency, if you visit festive favors you can use those to buy certain limited time items
and as for your avatar, if you select the arrow on the top right next to your name then you should have the option to select which dragon you’d like to use for it
how do i get money and how do i breed dragons that have less ugly colors
To add more info on breeding for dragons that match a bit more, here are two links to the fan wiki. To summarize them, dragon colors are inherited on a wheel. https://flightrising.fandom.com/wiki/Colors The possible range on each of the three color slots is determined by the shortest range between Mom and Dad's colors on the wheel, large ranges can produce some unmatchy hatchlings. The more similar in colors the parents are, the tighter the produced hatchlings will be in colors. Your custom progenitor rolls a random tertiary color on creation, and your random progen is of course random on all three colors, so usually their offspring are a real dice roll and the game's little tutorial nudges you into breeding them before you really understand the breeding system. https://flightrising.fandom.com/wiki/Genes shows the gene inheritance and rarity tiers of genes, lower rarity is more likely to pass then higher rarity. Gem marketplace genes are the highest and Basic is the lowest, in between stacks up Treasure Marketplace genes, Baldwin, Coli and Swipp obtained genes.

Nest Rentals! I offer Fire nests here at 2kt a pair, no lunch boxes needed. Warning that I am a 12-hr shift night worker and might miss a day on incubation here and there. :(
Feel free to ping me anywhere! I try to subscribe to threads I create, but pings are always cool.
@Mariwen thank you so much i had figured out the colors but not genes :)

Regarding the flatleaves : at the end of each month, Flight Rising celebrates one of the 11 element Flights with a dedicated festival ! During one week, you can find these festival currencies (at the moment it's Nature's fest so we gather leaves, but during Shadow's fest it would be shimmering pinecones, etc. )
It is used here : https://flightrising.com/main.php?p=festive, to trade with that lovely NPC named Joxar for exclusive items that will retire after the festival. The only way to get them after that would be to buy them from another player, or to find them in Joxar's special crate, which contains very random loot from past festivals and that you can only buy once each festival (it cost 80 000 treasures, you can buy it there) : https://www1.flightrising.com/festive-favors/joxar).

So if you like the familiar, scene and/or apparel I'd advice you to buy them before 6 am sunday morning, when the festival ends (:
Buying several (if you can) is also a great idea because you can always resell them later for profit.

How to get more flatleaves : gather in Nature (any profession, but diggin has a slim chance to give you skin chests), brew in Baldwin, battle in Coliseum against Nature or Neutral ennemies (best venues to farm : Rainsong Jungle, but if you prefer low level venues, Woodland Path is second best I think !)

And don't worry for dragons and colors, you'll soon learn what colors you like and how to make them work with genes (:
Do not hesitate to browse the auction house for cheap pretty dragons and to play in the Scrying Workshop to see how you can make your dragons beautiful !
