it's...it's been 3000 years...

Well, in that time, I completely overhauled my book and finished the first draft! I'm almost done with re-reads now and will be rewriting for the next month or so (on a vague estimate)! It's going well overall and I'm quite pleased with my progress :D

*blinks owlishly* what year is it

uhhhhhhh hello i guess! i used to hang out here a lot when i had somewhat higher writerly aspirations and then those dwindled to the point that i stopped caring about the monthly ping and then i stopped noticing that i wasnt getting one anymore. it's really nice to see this thread kicking again though! lotta fairly fond memories and i always did like to read the lore people put together and see updates from the couple people who were Actually Published OMG. lately ive felt a bit nostalgic for the plotline i had (and ultimately trashed) going in my lore so thats what ive been picking at, trying to revamp it a little.

@deztora That's okay. I'm sticking a toe in the water at my alma mater just in case I crash and burn and I was like, "Wow, I canNOT believe it's been a decade already!" Sometimes I've thought of joining one of those ESL companies or something like that. Do you work for a company or are you independent? ----- @Darkmoonbreeder This program has no C-, so I'd be passing by the skin of my teeth if it wasn't for that. Oh and I've been nominated to one honor society and qualify for another, which makes it even worse. x_x ----- @INeverMiss Teachers are important! Has your district (assuming you teach grade school) decided what they're going to do about fall yet? ----- @Pachirisu Me: I'm going racing tomorrow. Head: But you have a paper due this week! Me: I am GOING RACING! Besides, are we really going to work on it during the day, or are we going to sit around and play Hearthstone and Yahtzee? Head: (crickets) Me: That's what I thought! xDDD ----- That sounds like longer than I spend drafting! And I love the name @LilacsandFreedom. [emoji=familiar heart size=1] ----- @Encarmine Me: I haven't published anything (except fanfic) since 2015. Everyone: But you have five books out! Me: But I haven't published. (*pouty face*) Except I finally finished a smutfic last year. And I decided earlier this year (before Failuresville) that I'd continue to put my original fiction on AO3 (even though it's supposed to be for fanfic...I can call it fanfic of myself, since I'm published) and nonfic on Wattpad. My paper from linguistics is on there, but I have yet to post my story from my fiction class last term almost an entire term later. (Probably because it's emotionally fraught and I want to write an intro, which I haven't done.)

@INeverMiss Teachers are important!

Has your district (assuming you teach grade school) decided what they're going to do about fall yet?

Me: I'm going racing tomorrow.

@ColonelMarian

I teach preschool c:

And yes, we're starting off with online learning this year and continuing on 'until further notice.' Which personally I'm grateful for.

I'm working for a company, though tutoring is only a part of it. The company is more higher ed tech oriented, and tutoring is just a facet of it. (We got lots of neat interface technology to assist with online tutoring!)

I'm really impressed people here have already been published...! And books at that, not just short works! Kinda jelly. I'm gonna use it as motivation! /o/

I think I'll start with revisiting some of my old NaNo ideas. Oh, I bet these writing theads get really fun in November. XD

I just have a lot to keep track of. So, yeah, I would see the ping, say hello, then just poof for the rest of the month.

That being said, I'm working on a gift story for an exchange in an RP group I'm in, and then I'm going to get ready for FFXIV Write in September.

@INeverMiss Ooo, you're brave. Are the littles wild, or is that just stupid Hollywood?

I went to...is there a such thing as a public-private preschool? It was public in the sense that anyone could enroll their kids there (as far as I know), but private in the sense that it's not officially affiliated with the district.

@Deztora I use/d KDP. I had paperback books, but Amazon was making me charge ridiculous minimums, so I went digital only.

Higher ed? Like Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace (FKA Direct 2 Learn)?

@Encarmine Mine was, too.

And then I decided I wanted to separate general papers that I wanted online access to (GDocs) from my writing, so now Word online is a graveyard instead. LOL

Little ones can be wild, but they're also really fun to be around. Sometimes Hollywood is spot on, but most of the time it's an exaggeration.

I'd call that more of a private school, I think? I've seen a few of those and that's typically the category they fall under. I teach at a public school, but I did private for a handful of years.

@INeverMiss I don't know what Pre-K programming is like in my district now (out of school = out of touch), but back in the day, there was Young 5s and the preschool I went to and that was it. (I don't know if any of the parochial schools had anything.) Sending one of your kids to one and letting the other skip it can make for some interesting situations. People thought my best guy friend and his sister were fraternal twins, but he'd gone to Y5 and she hadn't, which is how they ended up graduating the same year. I'm pretty sure my primary preschool teacher (and possibly founder of the school) has long since retired, but she still puts a congratulations ad in the paper every year for her graduates. I think it's adorable and kind of missed it this year with the virus. [emoji=familiar heart size=1]
